Got promoted to Manager this last cycle. I also passed the CPA exam and became licensed in March, two months before raises handed out. I received a 7.75% increase and a 2.1% bonus. In years I did not receive a promotion I would get 3.25% raises, making the raise for Manager and CPA 4.50%. Does this seem low to anyone. I am unhappy at the moment but maybe my expectations need adjusted. Maybe the bonuses are larger for a full year at manager?

I don't know about their first pay bumps, but our good managers got annual 5-figure bonuses. This was not Big 4, btw.

That seems low to me if this was a public accounting firm (which I am assuming it is). Do you think your salary is on par with managers in your firm and other firms in the area? That is really the only indicator.

They're going to look at where you were as compared to midpoint, what the midpoint is for the new grade and other factors like business level, region of the business (and market there) and other things will factor in. If unhappy can see what the open market offers. Online salary estimators can be of assistance.

Sounds like it's time to leave your firm. 7.75% is pathetic for a promotion year with this economy. I know of first year associates that are getting better raises and bonuses than that.

@Dicedspam Same here! I just got promoted to Manager and passed all my CPA tests in April (licensed in May) and I got raise of a little over 7%, which already includes 3.6% annual inflation adjustment bump. So, my “big promotion” gave me 4% raise. Pretty pathetic. And they didn't do sh*t about my CPA: no reimbursements or bonuses whatsoever. I'm not desperate to leave, but I'm keeping my eyes open for a better opportunities at this point because I feel disrespected by the company.
