My wife has an uncanny ability to aquire some rediculously wealthy friends. Long story short, tonight I sat at a table with about 10 other people for a birthday party who’s combined net worth was probably over $500million. Among our group was the founder of Mcqueary Bros Pharmaceuticals as well as David O’Reilly, president and chairman of O’Reilly Automotive (who set next to me). I spent a solid 2 hours sipping Johnny Walker and shooting the bull with Mr. O’Reilly who is a very down-to-earth guy. I have the utmost respect for people who have a substantial amount of wealth yet who seems like they’re just an ordinary person. They were all very nice people and very down to earth. I thought it was pretty crazy the amount of money seated at our table.

Most really rich people are down to earth. It's the one's that are only worth a few mill that think they are better than everyone else. Extreme wealth can be isolating whereas the people worth a few mill still live near the middle class.

I was in a similar situation at a family wedding. The groom owns an investment consulting firm. The rehearsal dinner was held at a HUGE table (it was one solid two inch thick by six ft wide by 20 ft long plank of wood). They had half the C suite from two of the top five banks in the US as well as several major hedge fund and PE managers there.

I didn't know who it was at the time, but I saw one of the most powerful women in banking twerk her husband on the dance floor.

Easiest way to reduce the loneliness and isolation of the wealthy is to ask them to give you their money. Think of it as an act of charity.
