Anyone notice that the year Obama pushes the federal gov’t to recognize same sex marriage by filing MFJ/MFS returns for those married in a state within the US is when marriage penalties hit due to Obamacare? Specifically, the additional Medicare tax of 0.9% on MFJ income above $250K, whereas the 0.9% additional tax for a single filer applies to income above $200K.

san4596: Yep, I noticed the same thing – the marriage penalty right around the time when they approved same-sex marriages….

It may be true about men making more money then women, however, I have a few friends whose husbands make less…

My wife made more than me for the first 4 years of our marriage, but I have since surpassed her. However, I would not mind becoming Mr. Mom if she was more successful. I would become a “Trophy Husband!” LOL!!!! I already do all of the cooking. 😉

I hate cooking and cleaning and I don't imagine being a stay home mom, so I wouldn't mind being married to a chef! 😛 or something…LOL…..I can settle for an auditor who cooks, too……

I understand the marriage romance thing and have been to a couple of weddings where the brides looked ridiculously happy and I have been my brothers wedding as well;) The thing is I don't like all the legal rules associated with marriage and divorce. I don't even see why married couples should be penalized for having higher joint incomes. Our kids will just assume we are married. A non married divorce would be as simple as “you have a month to move out of the house I will be in Europe”. People change and the person you are marrying will not be the same person in 10 years. I understand romance and love but like to think I am advanced on this issue. With the exception of people who get married for religious reasons, any person who took the time to think logically(not emotionally) about marriage should agree with me.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

Well I make more than double what the hubby does.

The best thing to do to reduce your marriage tax liability is have a bunch of kids. Of course they cost exponentially more than the tax break they provide!

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

I did not get married for religious reasons, and couldn't disagree with you more.

Logic = valid reasoning of some activity. My valid reasoning of my marriage to my wife: I love her. My love for her is emotional. My valid reasoning for my marriage is logical.

    B: 71, 73, 79
    A: 83
    R: 78 (expired), 77
    F: 74, 74, 80

    It's finally freaking over.
