I was just thinking about how many people noticed that they have the same question twice and still passed the exam? I’m a nervous wreck now thinking about my exam. =( I had this experience before and failed. Does this mean anything?

    BEC 10/13 PASSED 77
    AUD 04/12 PASSED 83
    FAR 08/12 PASSED 76
    REG 02/13 PASSED 76

Licensed in PA on 12/23/13. Yea boy!!

My only thought is you better put the same answer both times. I bet they don't give you credit for having the right answer once and a wrong answer. They'll know you guessed on the right answer.

Actually… apple is partially correct. While the exam isn't smart enough to know that it gave you the same question twice and determine that you are guessing if you answer it differently, there is an adjustment to the weighting of questions they determine to be guessable.

    From the AICPA website:

“The total reported score is a scaled value that takes into account both the response to and the statistical characteristics of each question administered.”

“What do you mean when you say “statistical characteristics” of test questions?

There are three statistics used to describe the questions: Difficulty – whether the question is generally easier or more difficult for candidates, Discrimination – how well the question differentiates between more able and less able candidates, and Guessing – the chances of candidates answering the question correctly just by guessing.”

@ supervisor. I had the exact same question in T1 and T3 when I took FAR and still ended up passing with an 81. But, I totally understand how you feel. I stressed about it when it happened and then everyday untill score release.

    BEC 68, 84
    REG 76
    AUD 84
    FAR 71, 81

    And I am DONE!!!!!

I had a variation of the same question in each of the three test lets for AUD. I hope i capitalized on the opportunity and got all of them correct. Also, I hope by receiving the almost identical questions that it's not an indicator of failing the MC and the computer trying to”give a dog a bone”.

    @OP

I wouldnt worry too much because receiving the same question isnt an indication of poor performance or not. I mean think about it.. The CPA exam adapts the test to how well you did on the testlet not on a particular question. You just received 2 testlets that had a common question that is all, nothing more or nothing less. The exam doesnt give you questions you got wrong again so hopefully you get them right the next time…

You, like I, are probably more worried about your score and this is just the way your brain expressing that. Again dont read into it, it is just plain luck…

    FAR - 88 (Jul 2012)
    AUD - 85 (Oct 2012)
    BEC - 82 (Nov 2012)
    REG - 92 (Jan 2013) DONE!

I don't think you actually read my post. I didn't say that questions have more than one correct answer, I said that the weighting, or score value of each question is adjusted based on a number of factors, one of which is whether or not the answer is easily guessed.

    FAR - 79 - 07/2012
    AUD - 65, 78 - 11/2012
    BEC - 76 - 11/2012
    REG - 78 - 01/2013
    ETH - 98 - 01/2013

I had same question, same testlet… both with different possibilities for answers!!!!! I ALMOST passed… that doesn't help you feel any better though. 🙂

As others have mentioned, I don't think its an indication of anything- except that it just so happens to be a topic they are heavily testing you on. 🙂
