    Hey all,

I am an auditor by profession, but I feel that because I’m a CPA, I should know more about taxes than I do. My friends and family ask me tax questions all the time, and I honestly don’t know their answers most of the time. I did a 4 month internship doing personal taxes for a small firm in college, so I know some things, but I forget more than I remember. My questions is, what is the best resource than I can use to learn personal taxes? I feel like my old college textbook would be somewhat helpful, but that’s way outdated. Any recommendations? Thanks for your help!

The IRS is generally the best source in my experience. The VITA books and videos are helpful for the basics, and the instructions for the various forms will explain the more complex matters.

You should probably just be okay with not knowing about taxes– that really says more about their ignorance about what CPAs do than anything about you and your abilities/knowledge. It's a slippery slope once you start giving out tax advice when that's not your thing.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)
