Finished school in 2002, dropped the ball and failed to send in Application and fee by August 1, 2009 in NYS. (Found out about the deadline in October 2009, soul crushing)
Finally have my 15 years experience so I don’t need the additional 30 credit hours. Sent in my application to NYS to sit for the exam April 2017.
In December 2016 the board was 6-8 weeks out. In April 2017 they were 10-12 weeks. Now in June they are 14-16 weeks out. I was originally hoping to begin the process mid May, but now it looks like I’ll be lucky to start the beginning of August. I am waiting to buy a review course until I know I am approved under the 15 year path. I had some old Lambert books that I tried to use to get a jump on studying but I’m not happy with that format. I think my time will be better spent trying the samples of the review courses to see which works best for me.I assume I will be spending lots of time here over the next couple years so this is my official introduction to the group. 15 years in a small public tax firm, EA since Jan 2015.
Main 3 contenders for review course will me Gleim, Roger and Wiley.
I did well with the Gleim review for the EA exam, but the material was more interesting to me as the EA focuses solely on tax which is where my experience is.
Wiley is used by a local large firm for its employees. They went with that program because it allows them access until the employee passes and they are able to track the employees time on the software.
Roger – I recently stumbled on one of his lectures and it really kept me focused on the material. I’m excited to try his trail offer to see if the other lectures hold my attention the same as the ASC 320 lecture.
