I don’t understand why you wouldn’t be able to deduct property taxes you pay on behalf of someone else. The question asks about how much you can deduct if you pay taxes for your mom. So if I pay directly for her, I can’t deduct the taxes but if I gift her the 6K, then she can pay it herself and deduct it? I guess this is more of a rant than a question, but these are the ones that always get me hung up. Most of the tax law I understand why they have it, but these ones I just wonder why the rule?
