Recruiter said "I heard your interview went well"

So I checked my gmail account which is an email address I don’t use. I had a reference tell me “Your hotmail account looks childish on your resume you should change it to Gmail as employers see those email addresses as being more professional” Even though my hotmail email address is what I have been using since 2010 and used it on my resume that landed me a phone and in person interview with the firm. Anyway, so after the phone interview, I changed my email address by the time my in person interview came up. Afterwards I posted to you guys how I believed it went poorly because the partner of the CPA firm did not seem interested but the manager who I would work under did.

So I pretty much gave up believing I had the job but then decided to check my gmail account out of curiosity and saw that after 12 days of the in person interview, the recruiter contacted my gmail account and said she heard the interview went well and will be in touch when they make a hiring decision. I will admit, I was a bit butt hurt the interview did not go as I envisioned it would and said screw that job and applied to a number of other accounting positions including one with Microsoft as a general ledger accountant at their HQ here. However, my grandmother consistently stated that I should not get discouraged and to be patient on that CPA firm position.

Honestly, I would not mind if I got the job but I am not as enthusiastic about the position as before now that I want this job with Microsoft. What do you guys think my chances are? I am kind of looking at it as them getting my hopes up once again to shut me down.

One day I will face that exam.

Why are you only applying to one job at a time? You should be applying and trying to get in contact with recruiters/hiring managers as much as possible to everything that interests you. Why stop with Microsoft? Amazon, Boeing, Starbucks also come to mind…

I'm not going to speculate on your chances. It's a fool's game. I'd be guessing more than you. Continue to apply and network on a regular basis.

Career growth is a game of numbers and persistence.

Yeah. I agree. You should never get so caught up on just one company/role. Apply apply apply. Also you shouldn't take this stuff personally, that form likely received a lot of applications and interviewed at least 4-5 people. It looks like they liked you but MAY move forward with someone else, it happens. Remember it is real tough being on the other side. You interview 4 qualified ppl all who did a good job and pick one – it's not meant as an insult to the others.

Thanks for your feedback guys. The reason why I am not applying to multiple jobs at a time is because I am already employed on an hourly wage and each time I click out and use my lunch break to interview at positions, it is reducing my pay to be received during payday. I am already broke as is due to stupid divorce attorneys so I am trying to limit the amount of times I have to use a lunch break and risk some pay for a position I may or may not get. If I apply for 4 positions and all 4 want an interview, that could possibly mean 80 bucks reduced from my pay (assuming each one only lasts an hour).

If the recruiter told you that they heard good things about your interview, then it is true. They have no reason to lie to you. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that really have nothing to do with you personally that makes the next steps lengthy.

I was interviewing at a company for 10 interviews. After my second one the recruiter told me that she heard good things. I went on to have many more interviews. In the end I didn't get the role.

Now, with that being said, just because they like you doesn't mean you will get the job. I agree with the PP, keep applying, even when you are interviewing. There is no reason to temporarily take yourself off the market for a maybe. Plus, if you have multiple offers that gives you the upper hand.

Sounds like a lot of excuses to be brutally honest. You do realize you can apply to jobs outside of work hours and ask for interviews after 5pm. No offense but if you're allowing your hourly job to hold you back from advancing your career you'll likely be at your current position for a long time.

If you want to be the type of person who allows anybody or anything else to determine your path, disappointment will always be close by. You are seriously going to allow $80 to be the difference in your future? Yikes.

@mla11692- No. 80 bucks is not much but considering I am 18 thousand in debt and have literally zero dollars in my bank account every month from dropping my only savings of 3500, and cashed in all of my 60 oz of silver for money to pay this overly priced piece of crap attorney who took 40 percent of my retainer in less than a week and I barely have any money to send my son or eat? Yes 80 bucks means a lot to me right now. Yes most young college students are broke with student loans but add a child support payment on top of that with no parents to help and you would understand. Judge does not care if a man is struggling. If I work to earn more they want me to pay more. I am playing it smart as best as I can.

One day I will face that exam.

@mla11692 don't be too quick to judge someone. We all have our own situations.

Tre you're young and immature so I am going to cut you some slack. I understand that every dollar counts especially as a single parent. I was a single parent for a very long time.

But, if a new job could increase your pay by a couple hundred bucks a WEEK (assuming you could get closer to $20/h than the $14 you're making now) then it is exceptionally short sighted to cost yourself 5-10k per yerar over a one time $80 hit.You would recoup that $80 the first week at a better job then think of the $80 more per week every week. I've never met ANYBODY who had nothing else to give up–coffee, cable, cell phone, beers, cigarettes. Find the 80 elsewhere and improve your own life. I realize you will insist you've given up everything but the air you breathe….you're only trying to convince yourself not me.

Also have you ever ASKED to interview after 5 so you don't miss any work? You conveniently skipped over the reasonable compromise I mentioned and went directly to another tale of woe. You're still in school so you;'re likely not paying on your student loans yet and when those kick in you'll be in even worse shape.

I am not judging, trying to help you see the bigger picture and telling you exactly what I tell my own son who is about your age. Take a deep breath, and stop playing the poor me card. I realize you feel everybody from the military to your emplpyer to the attorney screwed you over. Darling, I was a single mom with 2 kids working full time, going to school and making about $15/hr north. of Boston. I walked the walk and am not suggesting you do ANYTHING that I didn't have to suck it up and do myself.

I sincerely want to see you successful, nothing I mentioned above would do anything but improve your life. I'm sure the extra $200 per week if you could land a new job would go a LONG way toward your child, your debt, and your standard of living. How can that be construed as offensive?

I agree with mla..100%…try looking at the positive side of things…life always works better if you do….I know your situation is worse than others, but then again some people have it way more worse than you do..and are still making it work…

Look at it this way..you have a better future ahead of you…getting your CPA license will make your life and your son's way better..and most importantly getting out of that job and finding something that pays better, will help you get out of the situation that you are already in…

I'm not judging..and I pray things work out of you..but the sooner you stop feeling sorry for yourself and trying to get everyone on board the better, set up interview appointments after work or before work, apply to as many places as you possibly can each day…

Good luck…you are going to be ok..

$18K in debt? That's all????????? Dude, several years ago I was $90K in debt, 70% of that being student loans. I am now only stuck with the 70% of student loans but I say be grateful it's only $18K.
