I started in my firm a little over a year ago as a staff accountant in tax. Was one exam and a couple of classes from having my license. I passed the last test and took the responsibility of tax coordinator for my small office. There was a tax manager, but he had been 20 years out of accounting when he took the position with my firm in my office. So I had to train him, keep the office running, and do the majority of the tax work.
The partners took notice and promoted me to accounting supervisor… I went from an office with an intern and a “tax manager” to managing the tax work for 7 accountants plus me and being the go-to for all procedural questions, basically everything comes to me (affecting my productivity on actual tax work). No raise upon that promotion.
I recently got my CPA license and the partners took me to lunch yesterday and gave me my “new and improved” salary for attainment of my certification.
Ummmm… Basically $40/week before taxes.
That doesn’t come close to covering the new responsibilities, maybe the certification? I’m disappointed, to say the least. Should I meet with my office partner and outline my understanding of their expectations of my duties and similar salaries in surrounding areas or should I just be thankful to get anything?FAR - 86
