I know I haven’t been licensed yet but it’s never too early to think about what to expect after getting licensed.

    1. How much does it cost to maintain a CPA license? I know I have to maintain CPE credits. CPE material is an expense (is it deductible lol, this is not a REG question).

    2. Do I have to get enrolled in as AICPA member?

    3. Do I have to get enrolled in state CPA society member (I’m an Illinois candidate).

    4. Anything I missed? So far the cost to maintain a license stem from 123 above, anything else I should know?

Feel so good to completely pass the exam stage (4 exam + ethics), Illinois told me a few days ago that they will send me the certificate once it’s ready.

I pay $150-ish every two years and have to report my 80 hours of CPE – which I pay about $500/year for via AICPA webcasts. I’m also an AICPA member. All in all – if you go cheap and get their aicpa express (you read the CPE and take tests), $400-$500ish a year to maintain a license on the cheap side. The majority of that is aicpa membership and CPE.

You can spend $$$$$$ on cpe – it can get crazy.

State societies often offer free or cheap CPE opportunities. Also, you may want to check locally. We have an organization here called the State Association of Accountants, Auditors, and Business Administrators that has $25 annual dues and then charges $10 for monthly CPE opportunities and $70 for an all-day seminar at year end.
