Question – Forgive me It's LONG

(I apologize ahead of time for the length)

Problem: I am retaking FAR on 1/9 and I want to take REG and BEC before the end of that window as well. I am determined to be done with this exam! I am going on a cruise from 1/13-1/24 and as much as I don’t want to study on vacation, that is valuable time and I realize it’s what I need to do.

Background: I HATE to study, I don’t know how to study, I was lucky enough to make it through college with VERY minimal effort when it came to studying. I never read textbooks either. I did go to 99% of my lectures and did all of my REQUIRED assignments, but that was about the extent of it. For some classes I did make my own note cards to study for test and that always worked well for me.

Personal Info: I am 35, a wife, a mother, and I work full-time as a tax senior for a small firm — not a lot of extra time , graduated from TTU in Dec 2013 with a BBA Accounting , will graduate in May with my MAcc from TAMUC

CPA Study – I didn’t see a point in spending $$$ on Becker when I knew I probably wouldn’t use much of it, so I figured I would try NINJA and save Becker as a HAVE to only type thing.

For FAR I bought the 10 point combo — used MCQ mostly, looked over notes but not much, and never re-wrote them as suggested, never watched Blitz and listened to audio very little, I tried the whole listen at work thing, but I never really concentrated on it, it was just noise , never read the book — got a 74 (studied about 4 weeks total maybe 60 hours — trending around 56% I believe)

AUD – I bought the MCQ and notes only this time. Had good intentions of rewriting the notes but never did. I did ok from the jump on the MCQ’s — trending 87.5% and average 65% — much better than FAR — had 15 days study time 28:44 hours per dashboard – got a 75!! I found AUD so much easier to study for , I didn’t dread it, and it was so much faster getting through the questions without all the calculations

Question: What is the study like for REG and BEC? As I have used mainly MCQ in the past, I won’t be able to do that on the cruise, I will probably use Ninja Notes on the cruise and then take like a week for MCQ’s when I get back before the test. Though I am in Tax I always have done better grade wise in audit classes, I just get it. I actually hate taxes, but being a single mom at the time, I took the tax route because it worked better for my lifestyle.

For those still reading — thank you!

I know this isn't what you asked but going to say it anyway, you almost passed 2 exams within 2 weeks so clearly your aptitude for these exams is great and you study very efficiently.

3 exams in one wnidow for a working mom? When that window is tax season for a working mom who works in tax? And going on a cruise to boot?

Even if it was guaranteed you'd pass all 3 why would you do that to yourself?

Agree with mla (as usual haha). If I were you, I'd re-take FAR beginning of January before tax season really kicks in. Then pick up REG and BEC after your cruise.

Because I am CRAZY and I just want to be done ha ha. I am re-taking FAR the weekend before I leave on the cruise. I plan to do some studying on the cruise and hopefully be ready to take either REG or BEC by the first week in Feb. Then take the other on the last day or two of testing. We really don't get too busy until mid to late Feb, so work shouldn't be too bad. And by busy I mean working 9-10 hour days during the week and 7-1 on a Saturday. NOT Big 4 busy.

So with that being said — do you think REG or BEC would be easier to study without MCQ — I guess which one has the least amount of calculations involved?

I'd say REG easier without MCQ.

Thank you! That was my thought as well, however I am still not even sure what BEC covers.
