Hi all, I just recently passed the CPA exam and I am wondering if I will see an increase in salary with potential job offers. I was a non-traditional test taker since I have been out of school over 10 years with accounting and audit experience. I just started a new job but I wonder what I can command in the market now. If you got your CPA later in your career, did you see an increase in salary? If so, was it significant? Thanks!

I think it depends on where you are in your career in terms of job promotion. A CPA with experience will open doors for higher level positions and that comes with more salary. However, I doubt you would automatically get an increase if you made a lateral move. I'm a controller right now and just passed my CPA and my goal is to become a CFO which would increase my earnings

I had 12 years of experience by the time I passed all four parts of the CPA Exam. My current employer was extremely happy that they had a CPA as their controller, but they did not give me a raise. I had to meet with the president and explain my value. I think they knew that already, but they were not going to do anything unless I made the request. I'm hoping to move on in the next 6 – 9 months and great larger pay increase somewhere else. I know too many CPAs that are making over $125,000, and too many non CPAs making above a $100,000. All of this hard work we have all put in to become a CPA deserves a much larger pay.
