My one friend got fired at pwc after 6 months, another friend after 8 months. I heard that it is very difficult to get fired from the Big 4, any thoughts as to whether this is the case?

I just started at a big 4 firm and am concerned I am not going to last through busy season 🙁

    Thanks guys

My experience is that you really need to mess up huge or mess up consistently to be fired for performance reasons. That said, there are a myriad of non performance things that could do the trick much quicker.

Most competent people giving an honest effort shouldn't have trouble keeping up. Sounds to me like your friends were partaking in mischief of some kind.

Your friend can at very least get into almost any midsize firm with PWC experience, he's blessed to have that on his resume.

He just has to say he left on good terms, & preferably have a couple people who work there ready to say something nice about him if need be.

Also usually you are not let go from Big 4s if you are putting in a decent amount of billable hours.

They avoid it unless you are pretty horrible, at least in the market I am in. People skate by all the time by doing just a “bad” job, but it has to be egregious for that to happen (especially as an associate).

It can happen, though unless you are absolutely terrible, it's unlikely. Although if your office lost some big clients subsequent to offers going out, layoffs or “counseling out” after your first busy season become much more likely.
