Putting test scores on LinkedIn

    I just noticed that LinkedIn has a test score section.

    1) Do you think you should put your test scores on LinkedIn? Is this worthwhile?

    2) Can/should you put your test scores on LinkedIn before you have your CPA designation, or would that come across as misleading?

    I saw a thread a while back about how somebody put “CPA candidate” on their LinkedIn profile, and they got a warning email from the Texas state board, telling them to take it down…not sure if this would be a similar situation.

    On a related side note, what are your thoughts about putting your college GPA on LinkedIn? I personally don’t do it but know some people who do.

    Hmm… I'm not sure I'd want someone to know my test scores, since two of them I've barely passed. I do put “has passed three of the CPA exams” in my summary.

    I also do not have my GPA on my LinkedIn page. I have it on my resume, but I don't really want my colleagues seeing my GPA (unless it was a 4.0, then I wouldn't mind so much :-P)

    It'd be worthwhile to show what exams you've passed, but I don't see the need to put numerical scores on linkedin. Passing is all that matters.

    @barely: Not sure about linkedin only because I don't know enough about using it for job search etc…but you should definitely put those scores on your resume!

    Probably because the “general public” aka dumb people could misconstrue the cpa candidate to mean cpa.

    I see no reason putting your scores on there. A passing score is a passing score and unlike other people and their experience, I've had recruiters ask me how I scored on mine.

    I wouldn't, as a general rule, post the actual scores. In terms of the certification, they are irrelevant so long as they are passes.

    It may be something you could use on your resume, as your scores are so high, but LinkedIn is a less formal version of your resume. As such, I would opt for a bit of modesty, and I think a simple “passed” would suffice.

    Depends on where you're at in your career, if you're applying for jobs that would consider your GPA (ie: entry level public accounting), I would include your scores. “Hey this candidate has a X.X GPA and has scored 90s on all exams”

    If the above applies, especially in your case, I'd put THOSE scores on your LinkedIn page and resume–not my scores lol. When I was applying I think I had something like:

    “CPA Candidate: BEC: Passed, REG: Passed, FAR: 10/2011, AUD: 11/2011” LOL

    Ninja + Wiley Test Bank: [FAR - 81] [REG - 76] [BEC - 88] [AUD - 73](doh!)

    Becker Videos: [AUD - 82]

    I agree with acamp. Unless you are looking for your first job, I wouldn't put the scores or your GPA on the resume. Once you get some experience, most hiring managers don't really care what your GPA was, and certainly wouldn't care about the CPA scores. That being said, the first job is always the hardest to get, so you need every inch you can get over your competition.
