Just curious. Do you guys pull all nighters before work or study late into the night for these exams?

My question is how do you function the following day if you pull all nighter? But to answer your question No I only study from 6-9 after work and I try to sleep a bit early. I wake up at 7 and study till 9 before work.

I wish I could start studying earlier, but I'm taking care of my son when I get home until my wife comes home from work. Normally I don't sit down to study until 8:30 the earliest and usually stop at around 11. It sucks because sometimes I'm so tired and I feel like I'm not really getting much out of it, but there's no way around it when you have a family and other responsibilities.

@re2pect It is hard to juggle work, family and studying. I have 3 kids and work full time as a staff accountant. I am sitting for the REG exam on Saturday 10/29. Fingers crossed that my 3 hours of studying most nights and studying all day saturday and half day on sunday pays off. My advice is to study whenever you can. Don't force yourself into i have to sit here for 4 hours. You need rest! Your brain needs to rest! Make flash cards for yourself to go over on your way to work and during your lunch break. That's what helped me.

I don't usually get a chance to leave the office till 6pm everyday and I am usually have to wake up at 6am to be in at 7:30am. By the time I get home at 7pm, I quickly eat something and usually stay up till around 12:30-1am. I am constantly tired…..

I'm fortunate to have a wife that's been very supportive since I went back to school a couple years ago. She takes the baby out on the weekends so I'll have alone time to study.

I try and make the best use of my time and study whenever I can. I listen to the audio every day going to work and when I'm not busy at work I'll sneak in some mcq's. If I'm out somewhere and I have a few minutes of downtime I'll do some flashcards on Brainscape or read through the Ninja notes. It's actually pretty sad that whenever I have a few minutes to myself I'm trying to use it to study lol.

Good luck on REG this Saturday! I'm praying it's my last exam next month.

I have found the best way to study is to do it in small bursts. It helps me retain the information and it doesn’t seem so overwhelming to sit and study for such a long time at once.

This week, I even started getting up early to study so that the house is quiet. I study from 5am – 6:15am or so. Then I work full time, so I study for 1 hour over my lunch break. Then when I come home, I study from 7-9. So I’m getting in about 4 hours or so a day. Then I try and do around 4 hours on both Saturday and Sunday. I do break them up on the weekends, just like I would during the work day. I’ll do a section early in the morning, do a few things around the house, and then go back to studying for a little while. Your brain is your most powerful muscle, and it needs rest and time to recover. I still shoot for 7 hours of sleep a night.

I got up early and studied for 2 hours before work. After work, I studied about 2-3 hours. So I studied about 4 hours per day while working full-time. But it covered less than 200 MCQs per day. So I needed at least a few months to cover each section. One of the most proud parts of doing CPA exams was that you would be surprised to find out how much you could be disciplined and motivated to achieve your goal. You could do this!
