I have a strange one. I live where it’s really hot and when I drive to see clients or leave my firm for lunch I take my tie off so I can unbutton my collar so it does not become lined with sweat. Problem is when I get where I am going I usually have to put my tie on in the parking lot. Is this terribly unprofessional? If u see an auditor tying his tie in ur parking lot outside of his truck in his truck mirror what would u think? Is there another way to keep ur collar clean in 110 weather that anyone knows of? Suggestions appreciated. Yes I have a/c but sometimes that’s not enough when it’s 130 in my truck before the a/c kicks in.

You're fine my friend. I think u might be over thinking things a little. What's important is that u have it on when ur having face time if it's required.

I assume you're from AZ? I grew up in Phoenix and remember those 110 degree days verrrrrrry well.

    Absolutely not.

When it's very hot, I sometimes unbutton my sleeves and the top several buttons of my shirt (while in a car, or something similar) to stay cool until I get to the office/meeting/etc.

I've put on a tie in my car many times.

It's not like you're changing your pants in front of people…

All bets are off if it's over 90 deg where I am (in the NE 90 deg means sack-stuck-to-leg humid). At some point there is a human comfort factor that kicks in.

Also, being an uber-sweaty sasquatch is just as much, if not more unprofessional than putting a tie on in the parking lot. Many people do that. Heck, I see BMW ladies ripping through traffic putting eye-liner on. If they can do that, we can put a tie on whenever.

interesting question. What is the best way to overcome such heat with a car?

Im thinking white car, tinted windows, autostart and making sure ac is well maintained is the best you can do. Park in shade whenever possible too, right?
