Process Vs Control – Checklist, Reconciliation – is that some sort of a control?

Hello fellow CPA’s and CPA’s in the making… I have a simple and basic question:

If a checklist that would indicate the performance of an activity has to be completed, would that be considered some sort of a control… I don’t think that it would be a control, a control may be a review of that checklist by a supervisor? but then again I still have some doubt!

I also think that it would be the same for a reconciliation, a reconciliation itself – although it is somehow a control by itself, the real control is the review of the reconciliation by a supervisor…

I know that this is a very basic question, but I would appreciate some help,

    Thanks,

It could be a control. At my job many groups use checklists (perhaps of recs or monthly JEs) with sign-offs as steps are completed. These checklist sign-offs are indicative of the review of those recs or JEs. You can also use a checklist for a completeness check if the listing is system generated.
