What are your thoughts on salary for someone who has some good small firm tax experience but has worked in private for the past two years…What can someone expect going into public from private after obtaining CPA while in private?

    I’m in NJ.

Our value does not come from our skills and abilities, as good as they may be; it does not come from our GPA, our job, a promotion from that job to a better job, our success on the CPA exam, or anything of the like; but our value comes from the fact that we have a Creator who loves us, cares for us, and desires to help us navigate the rough waters of this life in a way that provides security, hope, and true, everlasting joy while we anticipate the life to come, with Him.

Depending on firm size, potential increase in salary, most definitely longer hours (prob can't justify increase in pay), and less work/life balance?

BUT, it will lead to more opportunities later on.

You will likely go back to the level you left at, or maybe 1 year ahead of that. Tax in public and industry is more similar than audit in public and industry.

Pay will likely be better than if you were at the firm, but you don't get to work in public with a salary/benefits from industry.

I'm in Public now without my license and everyone I talk to says Private is the way to go all around. Supposedly better money and hours. Lord knows I see plenty of W-2's come through from positions I'd be qualified for that pay more than my salary! It won't always be that way though!

Stay private. I actually dislike the constant variety and having to know the ins and outs of dozens of businesses instead of being able to master one.
