I’m looking to make that move and wanted to know if anyone has been successful? In order to make a lateral move I’d have to come in GS13+ and there are many budget analyst positions on usajobs that fit the bill but it’s proven to be a bit of a black hole….I must have applied to umpteen positions and I’m almost thinking once I have CPA behind my name it will make me more appealing because Lord knows I have the experience! I enjoy the type of work my clients perform who are mostly GS15 CFOs. It’s been really hard getting past the veterans preferences but I’m going to keep trying…..any guidance anyone could provide would be useful!

Government jobs don't really look at CPA. They tend to look at Master's degrees though, if you have one of those.

    B - 80
    A - 80
    R - 71, 59, 74, 80 FINALLY!
    F - 77

Used Kaplan for FAR, BEC, AUD, and the first 2 REG attempts. I started using NINJA about 2 weeks before my 3rd REG attempt. I believe it's why I was so close to passing and why I passed the 4th time. USE IT FROM THE BEGINNING.

No masters but will do CGFM eventually, they seem to love that….make a big to do every time one of their own passes it!

@Valleygrl68 If you dont mind, would you mind listing your experience and qualifications? Im trying to get into the federal system myself and wanted to know what they might be looking for in a person without the cpa.

my background is a little different from most. I've been Big 4 the past 18 years (10 years as an Executive Assistant and 8 years as a Consultant), completed accounting degree in 2014, obtained 150 credits this summer, sitting for FAR in January…so I think my experience was impressive to the federal interview panels moreso than education and definitely not certs since I don't have any (yet)- I've had 7 interviews so far, the 6th was the charm!

Thanks Valleygrl68! I have two years at the state level and am in the process of getting my cpa, but I would like to make it to the federal level as soon as I can. Good luck with your new job!
