Hey everyone. I will be taking the Accredited in Business Valuation (“ABV”) exams within the year and was just looking for some tips on how to prepare. I know that AICPA has a prep course, but if there are any other resources or tips I would greatly appreciate it. I have thought about just giving the first one a go to see what the format is like and go from there. My firm will pay for it so there is little risk unless there is a rule about when you can attempt it, of which I am not aware.

Wow, this sounds interesting. How would you market this type of certification. Would you use it with the CPA license? I guess I could do my own research. Good question though.

    It begins with a 75

I work in our firm's Valuation department and we do lots of valuation projects for tax purposes as well as litigation. There are a variety of valuation certifications you can get. For a while, the ABV was only offered to licensed CPAs. The AICPA controversially allowed non-CPAs to start obtaining it back in 2018, but it still looks better to have the CPA attached to it. You are titled as this “First Name Last Name, CPA/ABV,” as it used to be only offered to CPAs, Two other commons ones are the Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) and ASA (Accredited Senior Appraiser). The ASA is harder to obtain, as it requires more experience. We get a lot of referrals from attorneys, and they are more inclined to work with you if you have certain credentials (i.e. ABV). Especially if you will be needed as an expert, they look for credentials like this pretty often. The ABV is a tough exam from what I hear.
