I am finally back after a 5 year hiatus due to divorce and life threatening illness. I am sending my daughter to my parent’s house for the whole summer, during that time, I will be preparing for FAR. The plan is to take FAR in the fall but I was wondering if I should schedule it for the beginning or the end of the testing window.

I took FAR 5 years ago and failed with a 69. At that time, I rescheduled the test three times making the prep five months. I didn’t feel more prepared, forgot all the material I learned early on and my MCQ scores stayed in the same range. This time, I want to study smarter not longer.

I will start studying in late June and will take the test in the Fall, I am leaning toward scheduling it for early/late October, that would give me three months to prepare for it, and If I fail, I will have enough time to study for the next testing window.

What do you think, and what was your strategy?

How much time per week are you willing to devote to studying? I gave myself about 2 months to study for FAR while working full-time. I didn't cover everything that I would've liked but at the same time if I think if I had another month I would have been bored of studying the same material and would've been counterproductive.

Everyone is different though. I suggest you go through at least half of the material so have a better guess on when you'll be ready before scheduling your test.

    Good luck!

I used Becker and studied for it in 12 weeks. I stayed on schedule so I wasn't behind but did get a little ahead which made the review period long and I thought I was going to forget things.

As for scheduling, I did beginning of the cycle as that is how the study period worked out. I would figure out an exam date and work back from there of when you want/need to start.

Good Luck! Also once I got my NTS, I put exams on the schedule. As you can see I am already scheduled for REG towards the end of November.

    Journey Started - January 2015
    FAR - 4/2015 - Passed
    AUD - 7/2015 - Passed
    BEC - 8/2015 - Passed
    REG - 11/12/2015 - Passed

However you schedule for studying purposes, I would make note of the score windows and schedule as close to the end of one as you can. Scores certainly release a lot faster than they did 5 years ago, but I don't imagine the wait is any less excruciating…. 🙂
