    Hi all,

I am looking to branch out and get my own phone plan. While on a budget, I have been looking into Straight Talk Wireless. Anyone have any comments? I currently do not own a smart phone and am on Verizon, and paying for a VZW plan is just too expensive for one line…

I don't have any experience with it personally, but I know folks with iPhone Whatevers that are on Straight Talk and they love it. The upfront cost is larger (your phone isn't subsidized like it is with the bigger carriers), but I've heard it pays for itself after something like 10 or 11 months.

Just go to Walmart and get T Mobile.

I pay $30/month and never run out of internet, text, etc. I forgot how much the phone cost (2 years ago) but it wasn't expensive.

You have to take into consideration the quality of service. I switched from ATT to Sprint because it was so much cheaper but I'm paying for it through bad service. I go inside a store and pictures won't send. I'm in the basement service is choppy. Sometimes you get what you pay for! See if you company offers a discount or through various organizations, school or credit union.

I use ultramobile. It's $20 a month for unlimited talk, text and 100 MB of internet and you can buy a SIM card for $1 online. No contract.

My household uses Straight Talk and Boost Mobile both. I would strongly suggest you go with a prepaid plan. The service isn't that much different (they all “rent” towers from the big providers, just need to figure out which one rents for the providers that have good service in your area), the prices are phenomenally better, and the phone options are more varied since it's all up to you. My partner has a Windows 8 HTC phone on StraightTalk that cost $300, I have a $30 Samsung Droid on Boost Mobile. Your budget and your preferences determine your phone, and hten you pay for it straight-out, instead of paying for it every month long after the phone cost has been paid.
