I searched the search bar thing for “2017 CPA Exam” and such and haven’t found an answer yet.. so I figured I’d ask to see if anyone knows! 🙂

For the people who are currently taking the CPA exam, pre-2017, do they just switch over to the 2017 style tests once the format changes? If so, won’t that just force us to buy all new review courses that are more geared towards SIMS, considering they’re increasing the SIMS to be 50% of the exam?

I have the EXACT same question. I figured I'd try my darndest to get what I could get done in 2016. I assume the new test format will be effective 1/01/17 but yes — if you spent your time with 2015/2016 materials it might not cut it. Or is it just the way they're testing but old materials are fine?

Hmmmmm. I'll keep checking back. I need to find a scholarship for people who are looking to get their CPA. Hah!

PS. Fingers crossed for you on AUD.

@fwesley thanks! AUD didn't go so well for me… retakes galore for me in 2016! I'm actually thinking of getting out of Public Accounting while I tackle these exams (so I would probably take a break from the CPA exam until Summer, if I was able to switch roles).. I struggled with tests in college, so I know that I need more quality study time than a 60 hours work week can provide me with

I read from Roger that the new exam format takes place during Q2 2017. So you still have ONE more chance of old exam format in Jan and Feb.

i am determined to get these finished in 2016 but my question is how will the new format be rolled into materials for those of testing in 2016? will there be two versions of materials or will pretest questions start to show up in the materials i am using now as updates are provided? will i be studying for an exam i hope i will never have to take?

Im sure this goes unsaid, knock it out ASAP! First you dont want a test with more Sims. Second, take into consideration that even the review software providers( Beckers,Rogers, etc) wont know how to handle this immediately until they get some feedback and that could take a one or two Quarters. Knock it out now!!!

@mitchmatch I totally wish I could knock it out before then.. but with 3 fails and having not even passed one of the tests… I'm giving myself a little break. I struggled through college because of tests, so I know that I need way more quality study time.. and that isn't too possible after 10-12 hour work days.. (during those 3 fails I did an hour studying before work and two hours after work every day and at least 5 hours spread through out the weekends – 10 weeks for REG, 3 weeks for REG retake, 8 weeks for AUD studying, so I know it wasn't the time that I spent studying that was my problem.. definitely the amount that I absorbed)

I'm thinking of jumping out of public accounting and into something else that is a 40 hour work week for the exam that way I can study an hour before work and actually take an hour lunch break like normal people and use it to study for 2 solid quality study hours on the early end of the day where my brain is still pretty fresh 😛
