If a shareholder makes a loan to the S corporation do the other shareholders include their percentage in their basis as would partners in a partnership if the s corp elected partnership status? Its not really specified in my becker reading material. Or is that loan just that shareholders basis at risk amount. Thanks in advance 🙂

My understanding is that a shareholder in an S corp is generally only allowed debt basis to the extent that he or she personally lends money to the S corp. Therefore, the other shareholders, because they did not personally lend money to the S corp, would not increase their debt basis by any part of the lending shareholder's loan amount.
