I am so sorry in advance for this juvenile rant/post BUT I really need to get this off my chest about a co-worker who has no clue what A71 is and will never read this! 😉

I’m not sure if this person has IBS or some other medical condition to cause this situation but it’s reached a point of near mutiny at my office and I need to rant…this person is constantly passing awful and disgusting gas in their office. To the point where you feel yourself becoming nauseous if you have to go in there for too long. The odor is simply horrendous and it’s becoming a daily occurrence. It’s seriously horrible and everyone keeps complaining to me about this person on a daily basis. Granted, I am generally the person in our firm to deliver news about office decorum compliance BUT it’s not like you can just walk up to a person and tell them to stop crapping in their pants on company PP&E! 😉

I’ve instructed everyone to act like adults, to ignore the behavior, to consider that a medical issue may be in play, and scolded people for gossiping about it…but off the record I’m just as grossed out as everyone else!!!! There really is nothing to do but pretend like it’s not happening…it’s the only professional thing to do…but come on, man!

    Rant over.

I'm currently in a conference room out at a client with a partner doing that very same thing. Thankfully he just left. I don't think I could stand it any longer. No we have the door open in hopes that the room will air. I swear I'm going to take the smell home w/ me soon. *barf*

I would wrap a beautiful gift, and make sure no one else sees me put it in Mrs. Toots office. It would be filled with spray, beno, matches, fabreeze, everything mentioned here. I would then carefully cut out letters and put them onto a plain white card that read, “Take your pick. You are making everyone sick!” kind of like a ransom note. Give her a choice of methods, but make it obvious that she must choose something! And then if there wasn't kick back about the rude ass gift (or perhaps I would run it by HR beforehand) I would expense everything I purchased! It is a company expense!

It should be HR that talks to this person about their personal habits (And clipping? WTF? We can't even go without pantyhose, but you have people clipping??? YUCK!), but if it isn't going to be HR, then I would go to whomever is over her, and if she is the shit, I'd light a candle or at least have one around so I could light matches all day. This would be a crappy way to have to work a long busy season!

We have Beno in the cupboard of the break room. I never understood why. Perhaps she worked for us in a past engagement.

Good luck! So glad I'm not you! (Still in shock that people clip their nails at work! What is wrong with people?)

    LOL — I too am awaiting 🙂

I am pretty sure if Mrs Toots changes her diet – her gas issues will decrease a lot. Most gas issue culprits are – Sugars, carbonated drinks, too much beans or cauliflower etc.

My step dad works in a hydraulic motor manufacturing plant as a machinist, so that means he works with the engineers on a daily basis. About 7 or 8 years ago, a new engineer from another country started at the plant at which he works. This guy was from a country where, I guess, it is culturally acceptable to not shower or use deodorant. In other words, dude stank to high heaven. The other engineers and machinists tried to give him some hints, but nothing seemed to work. So, one day my step dad went to Walmart and bought a stick or two of deodorant and put it on the engineer's desk before he got to the plant. The dude took the hint and started bathing and using deodorant and there hasn't been a problem since then.

Just some low-fiber, hopefully non-gas producing, food for thought. Be stealthy and wear a gas mask.

Update: After today I have a new found respect for those who deal full time in HR. UGH
FML.

I had 4 back to back meetings/conference calls this morning and while I was on the phone my assistant kept slipping me notes that the staff was getting unruly with rage for Mrs. Toots! Someone brought in McDonalds sausage biscuits as a Friday treat
which turned out to be not so much a treat an hour later!!! My office is 5 doors down and I could actually smell the odor
not good! When I finally stepped out of my office after 3.5 hours straight in there, I was seriously pounced on by 4 staffs about the “odor situation”! I told them to put down their pitchforks and blow out their torches because I was going to handle it today! 😉

After I wrapped up my last appointment around noon, I summoned all the courage and professionalism that I could muster and knocked on Mrs. Toots’ door. I had originally planned to chat with her in her own space to make her feel more comfortable but I have to be 100% honest that my stomach heaved when I went in!!! I politely asked her to refill her coffee and stop by my office for a moment with the caveat that nothing was wrong so don’t worry, etc.

I sat her down at my roundtable and simply asked her if she was feeling OK lately as I’d noticed that she didn’t seem like herself. I continued that I was very concerned for her general health and well being as we have worked together for several years and I could tell a drastic change in her behavior. She immediately shot back that she was fine and it was none of my business! As politely as I could, I told her that she certainly didn’t have to disclose any medical problems she may be having to me but that it’s very obvious that she is having some stomach “discomfort” for the past few weeks. I explained to Mrs. Toots that her health and well being is important to me and to everyone else on our team and we just want to make sure that she is OK. I encouraged her to make an appointment with a physician and offered to refer her to my physician if she didn’t have one. She was extremely nasty to me but I kept my cool and repeated my concerns for her health and that I could tell she was miserable
.I just wanted her to be OK!

    She paused
sighed
and then began to tell me about every cramp, pain, discomfort, bowel movement, frequency etc. she’s been having since eating at a seafood buffet over NYE!!! I suggested to Mrs. Toots that she may either have food poisoning or a shellfish allergy but either way she needed to see a doctor ASAP! I asked her why she’s waited for so long to do anything about this problem and she told me that she just hoped it would clear itself up. Then she told me even more additional information about her stomach issues. Barf. I swear that if I didn’t have to drive myself home that I would be chugging red wine out of the bottle at my desk right now
way too much information!!!

I told her to call her doctor immediately for an appointment and to please take the rest of today off to rest and recuperate. Mrs. Toots actually thanked me at the end of our conversation
I was shocked! She was able to get in touch with her doctor’s office and they will fit her in this afternoon. I hope she gets a prescription or something that will help clear up her problem. After she left for the day, I sat down my top 4 gossip whores and explained to them that Mrs. Toots is ill, that she’s going to see her doctor, and to stop making fun of her! I felt like I was having a stern conversation with my nieces and nephews that range in age from 9-12! I ran everything that happened by the owner and they were pleased with how I handled everything
whew!

I’m convinced that she has really bad food poisoning. Either way I hope that she gets better soon and now everyone at my office can stop complaining, breathe easy, and get back to work!!!!! 😉

Hm, well, if medicine can't help her- you should look into getting her a couple pair of these:

    https://www.flat-d.com/womenodorpad.html

They are charcoal pads that absorb order! That's human ingenuity right there.

    AUD- 97 1x
    REG- 81 1x
    BEC- 79 1x
    FAR- 88 1x

    DONE!
