I am so sorry in advance for this juvenile rant/post BUT I really need to get this off my chest about a co-worker who has no clue what A71 is and will never read this! 😉

I’m not sure if this person has IBS or some other medical condition to cause this situation but it’s reached a point of near mutiny at my office and I need to rant…this person is constantly passing awful and disgusting gas in their office. To the point where you feel yourself becoming nauseous if you have to go in there for too long. The odor is simply horrendous and it’s becoming a daily occurrence. It’s seriously horrible and everyone keeps complaining to me about this person on a daily basis. Granted, I am generally the person in our firm to deliver news about office decorum compliance BUT it’s not like you can just walk up to a person and tell them to stop crapping in their pants on company PP&E! 😉

I’ve instructed everyone to act like adults, to ignore the behavior, to consider that a medical issue may be in play, and scolded people for gossiping about it…but off the record I’m just as grossed out as everyone else!!!! There really is nothing to do but pretend like it’s not happening…it’s the only professional thing to do…but come on, man!

This would make a great BEC question. Ms Toots Magee has a medical problem which causes excessive flatulance at work. She has come to you ask if the expensive medical airspray she has to buy out of pocket to mitigate the odor is a deductible business expense or could it be covered under medical. Please prepare a memo outlining your response.

Oh dear. Yes there are people that have a medical issue and its very hard for them to control it but at least they take precautions and are mindful of their surrounding.

I am sure if its medical, doc's can prescribe medication to help with the issue or maybe change in diet. Some people's digestion system do not react well to certain foods that other people have no symptoms. I have that problem where I get serious tummy aches / cramps if I eat too much bread, cheese, tomatoes, onions, peppers, chili etc. So either I had to take medication or just avoid foods with such ingredients.

I preferred to avoid the foods as I really don't want to be on medication.

I'm still LMFAO at “depleting gas royalties”, BTW!!!! @San well played sir or madame!!!! 😉 And if I had to prepare a BEC memo for what to classify the air freshener spray, I'd make a strong argument for “office supplies expense”!!!!!!

In all seriousness however, I really don't want to offend or embarrass Mrs. Toots!!! I'm leaning towards the argument that she can't help it but I do 100% agree with @jasonrobbins that this making the rest of my staff miserable which isn't OK either!

I stopped by the owner's office before they left this afternoon and asked if they had any issues with me having a polite conversation with Mrs. Toots about her toots and their impact on the rest of the office. I explained that I would keep the focus on “I'm concerned for Mrs. Toots' well being” rather than “the staff is sick and tired of their workspace smelling a toilet”. I received the go ahead for a courteous conversation with Mrs. Toots and to do or say whatever I felt was appropriate and necessary to remedy the situation and they actually thanked me for offering to handle this in a courteous and professional manner. Thank goodness no one at my job reads A71!!!! Ha!!!!!!!!! 😉

I have 4 meetings before lunch, so it will be early afternoon before I can meet with Mrs. Toots. I will post an update as soon as one is available tomorrow!

I had to look this up on Dr. Oz because he preaches how good gas is for you. One of the articles said to eat fennel seeds so maybe you could stop by the grocery store on the way. I wonder if she eats a lot of fiber. I can tell when my husband eats his fiber 1 or Kashi because you'd think the dogs got into something. There's almost nothing as bad as a dog fart.

Poor thing probably knows it and can't help it. I hope she doesn't have a medical problem like gluten intolerance or diverticulitis. My mom has diverticulitis and has to be really careful about what she eats or we all know it.

I'm glad none of you work in my office. If I get a hang nail or chip a nail, I will clip it. It's never even occurred to me that the SOUND of clippers drives you all insane. I can understand stray clippings flying at you, but the sound of a clipper?

While I feel bad for everyone else in your office that has to deal with the stench, I honestly feel bad for the culprit. They probably can't help it and are far more embarrassed about it than you are for having to bring it up.
