I am so sorry in advance for this juvenile rant/post BUT I really need to get this off my chest about a co-worker who has no clue what A71 is and will never read this! 😉

I’m not sure if this person has IBS or some other medical condition to cause this situation but it’s reached a point of near mutiny at my office and I need to rant…this person is constantly passing awful and disgusting gas in their office. To the point where you feel yourself becoming nauseous if you have to go in there for too long. The odor is simply horrendous and it’s becoming a daily occurrence. It’s seriously horrible and everyone keeps complaining to me about this person on a daily basis. Granted, I am generally the person in our firm to deliver news about office decorum compliance BUT it’s not like you can just walk up to a person and tell them to stop crapping in their pants on company PP&E! 😉

I’ve instructed everyone to act like adults, to ignore the behavior, to consider that a medical issue may be in play, and scolded people for gossiping about it…but off the record I’m just as grossed out as everyone else!!!! There really is nothing to do but pretend like it’s not happening…it’s the only professional thing to do…but come on, man!

I am sooooo glad everyone agrees that the fingernail and toenail clipping in the office is just plain disgusting. After 5 years of hearing it multiple times a month (there are multiple offenders) I started to second guess myself “Am I being too unreasonable? I would never do anything that involves personal hygiene in my office or cube, but maybe it's normal?” The biggest unfortunate part of my nail clipping dilemma is that the clipping starts at the top. Of the 4 partners at my firm, 2 of them clip in the office which has this gross trickledown effect to all other levels of the company. Oh, and at a time we had a cubicle flosser. I nearly died when the offender asked me to come to her desk to help her figure something out. I walked to her cubicle and she was in the middle of flossing those two large front teeth of hers. I threw out all professionalism and shockingly responded “woooot the heck are you doing? You've got plaque plastered all over the computer screen. Call me back to your desk after you've sanitized your space.”

@MintsRGood – A LADY? Are you serious? Hmm…how offended would she be if you walked by her office and bombed her with Febreeze every time she let one go? Oh gross, I just dry heaved.

Interesting you mention Febreeze….Tuesday was a particularly bad day for our stinky friend and after listening to a tremendous amount of complaints I tried to take matters into my own hands! I walked up and down the main hall complaining that someone's reheated lunch MUST be the culprit of this foul stench and sprayed lilac scented LYSOL all over our office thinking that should do the trick!

It worked like a charm until Mrs. Toots started up again and instead of masking the smell it just comingled and the entire office smelled like a bathroom!!!!!!!!!!!

I would definitely try saying innocently in another space such as the breakroom, wow did you smell that bad smell in the hall? Then maybe she'll get the hint. But the person guilty of gas-passing may be on some kind of medication that causes gas.

But the nail clipping or flossing – in a public accounting firm? That's outrageous. That nail-clipping clicking sound drives me insane…

To think that she kept tooting even after you blamed someone's reheated lunch and masked the stench with Lysol is shocking. Sadly I didn't think I'd ever say this, but I'll be glad to keep my “clippers” over the “tooters”.

I just envisioned Mrs. Toots in her car….on a cold winter's day….with her windows up…and the A/C off…tooting her merry way home.

Ok these posts are hilarious!! You made me feel bad though because I will clip my nails whenever I have a hangnail because they get snagged on my clothes and hair and drive me crazy. Its not a regular nail trim though.

When i first started working at my company i worked in an office with a woman whose medicine made her pass gas. She tried taking different things to help but nothing worked. She had airfreshener and would spray everytime she passed gas. I only ever smelled the airfreshner scent and nothing else.
