I am so sorry in advance for this juvenile rant/post BUT I really need to get this off my chest about a co-worker who has no clue what A71 is and will never read this! 😉

I’m not sure if this person has IBS or some other medical condition to cause this situation but it’s reached a point of near mutiny at my office and I need to rant…this person is constantly passing awful and disgusting gas in their office. To the point where you feel yourself becoming nauseous if you have to go in there for too long. The odor is simply horrendous and it’s becoming a daily occurrence. It’s seriously horrible and everyone keeps complaining to me about this person on a daily basis. Granted, I am generally the person in our firm to deliver news about office decorum compliance BUT it’s not like you can just walk up to a person and tell them to stop crapping in their pants on company PP&E! 😉

I’ve instructed everyone to act like adults, to ignore the behavior, to consider that a medical issue may be in play, and scolded people for gossiping about it…but off the record I’m just as grossed out as everyone else!!!! There really is nothing to do but pretend like it’s not happening…it’s the only professional thing to do…but come on, man!

Oh boy. Not only am I completely disgusted with the thought of gas fermenting in someone's office, but I'm extremely mortified for you and your co-workers. Not sure how you'd go about this as I'm battling with my own “Office Etiquette” situation. In my office there's 4-5 people that think it's appropriate to clip their finger and toe nails at work. I nearly got hit by one the other day as I walked pass the individual's cubicle. The sound of the clipping makes me want to vomit, but luckily I can resort to earphones and music. As for you and your co-workers, I'm not sure how you can stop this issue without hitting it head on.

You know there is some medicine that can help people not fart (sorry, I am not sure about the names). You can buy him one pack no matter what kind of disease he may have. Then when you give to him, you can start the main topic nicely, like “sorry for your illness” “hope you recover soon”. Basically, just suggest that PLEASE STOP FARTING!

Mints – I have walked into my tax manager's office multiple times to discuss a client, and they obviously dropped a gas bomb before walking in. I myself will admit that GAS HAPPENS, but at least light a F'ing candle! Unlike me, you are in a position to handle this kind of situation.

My suggestion, you should have a private discussion with the employee in a professional manner.

OMG, I would throw up in the floor if someone was clipping their toenails in my office. I would have NO issues explaining to them politely that this is a CPA firm i.e. not a salon and please do your mani/pedi off the clock please and thank you…but this person may not be able to help themselves so I feel really awkward about the whole thing.

What's even more awkward is that this individual is a LADY…a really uptight one at that! If it was one of the guys in our office, I would just walk in to their office when it got stinky and say “Come on, Man!” a la Keyshawn Johnson/Monday Night Football, have a laugh about it, and politely ask them to knock it off for Pete's sake!
