I have update my resume on monster. Few recruiters have contacted me and asked me to register. They asked for personal details like SSN and signing many forms at initial registration. I understand these details are to be given on receiving final job offer. Why do they ask at initial registration and is it safe to give so? These are known recruiters .And I have received no communication from them after registration.

Its probably to check your backround/credit history.

    REG-77
BEC -Waiting on score May 5th
    AUD - May 30
FAR - Q3 depending on if i pass above two in Q2

NO NO NO. Do not give out your SSN – especially when contacted by random people you don't know through online boards/postings. It is a scam and they are trying to steal your identity/money. These people prey on the desperate and job hungry.

If there is a background check, it is usually the last step in the process and the way your word your question just seems sketchy.

For instance, I've applied for 15+ jobs recently, had interviews at 8 different companies and only had to give my SSN to the interview I accepted an offer from.

& I worked with multiple different Recruiters and NEVER needed to give it to the recruiters themselves once. SSN should not be part of the initial registration.

If I was given a form like that and KNEW FOR A FACT that the recruiter was legit, I'd just leave that field blank. & if asked about it, would say I am not comfortable giving that information out. Also don't give out your bank account numbers.

Since you already gave it out, definitely keep an eye on your bank accounts and, even more important, monitor your credit score. – someone could potentially activate a credit card in your name.
