OT: Too Many OT threads ?

Just asking … we are having more and more off-topic threads.

Is it distracting? No big deal?

I was considering making an “official” OT thread to keep them all in one spot … maybe that’s a bad idea .. I welcome any feedback.

I think we need something besides talking about the stresses of studying. A71 is like a little family! We are all here to support each other, and I guess as time goes on we are supporting each other in different ways.. Its a great group of people. I don't know if one OT thread would be a great idea.. but thats just my opinion.

I think we have too many stickies….I skip them to get to the topics to see what people are talking about. If the OT thread peaks my curiosity, I post. If not, I enter the post, chastize them for posting something that I didn't approve and then keep on until the entire site is upset. Oh wait, that's not me.

I, in fact, didn't know there was a REG experience thread because I skip them.

I actually agree with CPAPending's post about the stickies. I don't really know how else you would do it, but I also skip riiiight over those and go to the revolving threads. OT FOR LIFE! 😛

I can't believe that having 3 “OT: Mrs 300” threads seems unusual! 🙂

Personally, when I was studying, I came here a lot for a break, support and comic relief. Most of the times, those three things came in the “OT” threads.

I guess I can see how OT threads would be distracting, but are people coming to A71 other than to be distracted or for a break? If people don't want distractions, they should stick to the study discussion threads.

I agree with CPApending that there are too many stickies. I wish the stickies only appeared in the respective forums and that only a link for each forum would pop up and then the most recent posts below it. The OT posts do not bother me.

I think it ebbs and flows. If it becomes chronic I think you'd want to get a handle on it. My definition of chronic may not be the same as yours though,

Now that I read CPAPending.. I agree. I skip over the stickies.. and look at the titles of new topics posted.

See how much better the world functions when the collective says “I agree with CPAPending”. Like buttah.

I think everyone probably knows where I stand on this one. The OT threads are usually the best, and certainly the most entertaining, threads on here.

I do understand how one could perceive them to be annoying though. It is pretty annoying when certain posters start an OT thread to tell us what they had for breakfast, start a new OT thread to let us know they studied for a couple hours at lunch, and then post a new OT thread in the evening to let us know they are feeling a little bit sad. Perhaps a cap on the number of OT threads you are allowed to start would be good.

I think if you are bothered by the OT threads in general, you can navigate the site using the sub-topics listed below in the main forum. If you are studying BEC, just stay within the BEC threads, etc.

Overall, I think the OT threads are a huge part of this site's success.

I am not sure that the average site visitor taking the exam really cares about OT threads….they just want to pass.

Mini – That reminds me, I had a banana and coffee this morning for breakfast…then I had to hit the bathroom for a bit. After that, I nibbled on a muffin, but realized it was a bran muffin and quickly spit it out (I had already wasted too much time in the bathroom). I was gonna instagram the aftermath, but I thought better of it.

Haha I do, however, totally agree that OT threads are the greatest invention to this site to date. I do realize that nobody said they were the greatest invention to this site to date, so I'm contemporaneously making and agreeing to my own assertion. Yipee.
