    Thought this would be fun.

Tell me something you do at work that has absolutely NOTHING to do with anything you studied on the exam (or in school for that matter).

I’ll go first…….random government surveys/census things. I swear if it were up to me we’d just blow it off and pay the fine 😉

….Create reports like crazy for every stupid little thing that not only management needs, but sales people, technical support, even the receptionist… I am the system administrator by default, just beause nobody *$&Y#$&#)($ …. 😉

Sometimes I wonder why I studied accounting and finance instead of IT.

Well, this is something they should probably teach in school, but I am the sales tax person at my company. When the corporate accountant for tax left our employ, I was awarded the sales tax portion of her job. (They split her duties up instead of replacing her). She trained me as best she could for the short time she could and I have had to learn a lot on my own. Our company collects sales tax in 13 states, and there can be different rules in each one.

@momto5 – I agree, I do a lot of sales tax reports for our clients. You almost need to be a mathematician to do a sales tax report for a gas station. Other reports are the payroll quarterly reports, along with the annual reports.

Started sitting in May 2002, on and off. But since 2008 I've been nonstop and my scores are....

If only the CPA exam were on being an expert at binding reports. Or folding Christmas Cards. Or entering time into our stupid admin program we have that takes about 30 mins of my day.

It was a hundred years ago but I still remember it. I had to serve coffee to a bunch of VIPs visiting the company and deciding its financial future. Teapots and everything; all highly breakable stuff.

I've never worked anything outside of accounting (and babysitting) and this felt like a bizarre and embarrassing experience at the time 😀 😀

And one more recently: Something very important needed to be delivered urgently; the courier didn't come and I dispatched myself to the office of the receiver :))) On foot.

I am responsible for assembling binders for our annual budget presentation. I get to print, hole-punch and assemble the binders! I am still trying to figure out which section of the exam best prepared me for those duties!!

Texas CPA - licensed in 2012!!!

I splurged and bought a case of pre-hole punched paper just so I wouldn't have to mess with the time and mess of punching holes anymore.

I did get to spend yesterday moving obsolete (and heavy) equipment to an offsite warehouse.
