Out taxes were denied because my husband’s social security number was used as the primary number on another tax return. I have filed a fraud report with the social security website and have called the 1-800 number for the social security administration, but after calling 5 times and staying on hold for 30 minutes to an hour each time (and being disconnected after a live person actually answers) I am at a loss as to what to do at this point. I can’t get through to anyone there, even using the call back feature. How can we get our taxes approved and get our refund if I can’t talk to anyone???

If this is for your Federal taxes, you should fill out Form 14039 and mail it to where you would typically mail your return if you were paper filing. Unfortunately all you can do is wait for them to respond and figure it out on their end.

If you tried to E-file them and they were rejected, then complete the 14039 form and mail with a paper copy of your tax return. Your refund might take a while to process, and they will most likely issue you a pin number for identity theft for you to use in E-filing your return for the next five years or so. Good Luck!
