I was recently fired from my job (good riddance) and to avoid a wrongful termination suit my boss offered me a severance package which includes them accepting my voluntary resignation and rescinding the termination.

When interviewing and say I resigned, I’m asked why.

I’m interviewing for similar jobs in the same geographical area so Im at a loss for an acceotable reason to have resigned without saying anything negative about the horses a– I worked for. Also I do NOT want anybody calling there for a reference. The only person more clueluss than the oresident is the little girl who plays H/R part time.

Oh – I remember that now. PS- He sounds like a right jerk.

My new supervisor asked me to create a reason why we have this “balance” in the accrual account for a entity I don't even look – for the auditors.. I knew right then and there.. it is time to go.

Hmmm yes true, I am sure you can find another position, may take a while depending on where you live and if there is a lot companies that are hiring controllers.

I want to move from a Senior Accountant to a Financial Analyst. 🙂 fingers crossed i get find someone willing to give me the opportunity.

If that's your real reason, then I was straight up say “I left because I wasn't comfortable doing things that they wanted to do incorrectly.” I've said that before – and what they wanted me to do wasn't illegal, but it was incorrect. Yours is way more extreme, but in order to avoid complications I would say what I mentioned so that it doesn't outright say they were lying cheating corruptions of human beings. 🙂

I'm really sorry to hear that and wish you nothing but the best!

I would say something a long the lines of either, the company was going in a different direction then I wanted to take my career, or something a long the lines of if its a bigger company your interviewing with, I am looking for a bigger company with exposure to different types of areas of accounting, non manufacturing, etc.

Also and i am sure you already know this but you did the right thing, never worth risking your future in the long run for a company like that!

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

I would tell them the truth. The boss, owner, manager was unscrupulous and that you were asked to do things that were unethical and it made you uncomfortable. As a result, you decided to part ways and free yourself to search for a position that values your integrity, educational and professional accomplishments. I've said this in an interview and got the job…”Everyone is on their best behavior during an interview, and afterwards people may realize that they do not agree on the proper course of action or find they cannot work together for various reasons. It doesn't mean that anyone is “good” or “bad”; it just means that it wasn't a good fit. I gave that job everything I had but in the end, it was not a good fit for them or for me. I hope that my resume and longevity in other jobs will show that this is not a standard for my career. You have asked for only three references, but I will be happy to provided others if needed.”

Good luck on the job search mla…I hope you find something great!

    Thank you everbody!

Baxter I've toyed with saying that but was afraid it makes me sound like I'm potentially difficult to work with. ‘Glad to know you actually said that and GOT an offer!
