I was recently fired from my job (good riddance) and to avoid a wrongful termination suit my boss offered me a severance package which includes them accepting my voluntary resignation and rescinding the termination.

When interviewing and say I resigned, I’m asked why.

I’m interviewing for similar jobs in the same geographical area so Im at a loss for an acceotable reason to have resigned without saying anything negative about the horses a– I worked for. Also I do NOT want anybody calling there for a reference. The only person more clueluss than the oresident is the little girl who plays H/R part time.

(but my last idea would seal the side of not asking for a reference). You could say something like, their accounting style was a bit too aggressive for my taste.

Ive got tons of other professional references (12 years with one employer, 5 years with another who would rehire me in a heartbeat if they were looking for a controller)

It was a small manufacturer and I was fired for signing into my computer as my predecessor. Funny thing is, that was the ONLY way I could print financial reports because my userid didnt have access to the financials (as the controller lol). About 10m annually and 32 employees- I had 2 direct reports.

acamp has a good point there too.

Since you have already left I would say the part of they wanted to restructure the department and they felt needed X amount of people instead of Y and you learnt a lot from the company but also embraced the change and saw you needed to look for a more challenging role that would further you skill sets.

I am looking to move as well, my co has decided to restructure the group where one person just does one thing. IE one person will do banks for all the entities and another will do prepaid etc …That is not for me but well its good perhaps for the co but not so much for the work force.

Oh well – changes comes and so need to embrace and move on.

Depending on whom you are interviewing with, there's nothing wrong with showing them or letting them assume you have big goals for your yourself. Why would it be so bad if they did think that you wanted to be a CFO or President? Unless that is not what you want. You are a CPA now, or soon to be, it should be no surprise you are a driven individual that wants to be great in their career.

no Kenada, that was the reason on paper that protects him legally. The REAL reason was that I refused to give bonuses without adding them to taxable income, fudge the 12/31 shipments to reduce his taxable income, and that I added his PERSONAL life insurance premiums to his W-2, but using someone elses login sounds better.

I have grounds for a lawsuit, but his severance offer was 3 months pay, and I'd rather have that in hand NOW than fight 12 months for it.
