Anybody ever worry about losing friends over this exam? Mine are understanding so far, but how many times can I turn down an invitation before they quick asking? This is beyond frustrating, especially since not one is remotely related to the business field and can’t relate to how the CPA exams work.

If they are true friends, they should understand how important it is to you. Explain to them that you turn them down now so you can focus on the exam and pass them as quickly as possible so you can hang out with them again.

I just told a friend this morning that I couldn't go to her wedding because I needed to study. She completely understood and said that we would get together in November. Remember this test doesn't just test your knowledge of accounting. It tests your relationships, your resolve and your sanity. Real friends understand.

Kricket – You are skipping your friend's wedding to study? That's a bit much. I'm sure you could both attend the wedding and find time to study. You need to get away from the exam and from studying once in a while. It wil do you some good.

@ Kricket – I think I'm with Mini on this one. My nephew got married in July, (I was in the middle of BEC) 6 hours away from here, which entailed driving Friday, staying the weekend, and driving back Sunday. I did study on the drive a bit, but otherwise got very little done. In the end, I pushed myself later to catch up, and it was a wonderful break!

I have a new grandson that is due any day, and you can be sure I will be driving again, this time 7-8 hours, to meet him. Some things are just too important to miss! Now, I suppose if this grandson was arriving 3 days before my exam, the trip would have to wait, and maybe that's your situation. But if it's a local wedding that you can steal away for a day and it's far enough away from exam day, I would say go!

Everyone needs a break from studying. I think it's important to allot an amount of relaxation time as it is to allot study time. I recommend one day/night a week, go out and do something. I'm not saying go and party until 2AM and be worthless the next day. I mean, go see a movie with your friends, or accept their dinner invitation. Even working/studying full-time, the rest of your life doesn't have to completely cease.

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 🙂

Agree with Mini as well. Kricket, you need to go that wedding girl! When I was studying, the only time I really shut my self off from the world was the week before the exam; other than that, I always made time to see my friends and family, specially for special ocassions like a wedding. Like @momto5 said, unless you're in a time crunch, I don't think ppl need to study every single day at every waking hour.

Go in. Have a shot, say congrats, maybe a dance or two, and then peace out. Still 3-4 hours to study the rest of the night 🙂

Kricket studied on her birthday once and I told her to take the night off or I would ban her.

    That went over well.

She went “red-ass coon face” (or whatever her saying is) on me.

    🙂

Um, yeah, I've got one shot, at one test, to get off this train ride through hell or I lose AUD. I haven't taken ANY time off between tests in four and a half years. I left home at 5:30 am, took BEC at 8am, got home at 1:00 and was studying for FAR by 3:00. I'm up at 4:30 or 5am EVERY morning. Weekends don't exist. I study every freaking minute. If I'm not at work, I'm studying. If I could take a month off of work, I'd study constantly until October 17th. I only come on here when I'm eating. Four and half years is more than enough of this. The only way I'm gonna get my life back is to TAKE IT BACK! I'm mad. I'm tired. I'm broke and I'm gonna do this. Success is my only option. When I talked to the bride she said that we would get to actually see each other more if we got together in November. I don't think I'm going to be missed with 650 guests. I have some very understanding friends, a son who wants his mother back and a man that I sleep with that kind of wants to get to know me again. I can't blow this.

Kricket – I can appreciate that. I'll just point out though that you say “i haven't taken ANY time off between tests in four and a half years” like that has somehow helped you get through these exams. It doesn't make any sense to continue to do something that isn't working. Ultimately, you will do whatever you want to do. Just dont put any extra pressure on yourself for missing weddings and not taking any days off. Part of this is a mental battle and you need to have a good mindset going into the exam. Small breaks are always good. In either case, I really hope you pass this last exam. Good luck, as always!!

@Mini – Do you suggest I go in and “mash the keys on the simulations to pass”? LOL Because I don't see that working either. When I say I haven't taken a break, I guess I should clarify that. I took a week off when I landed flat on my face in Wal-Mart and ended up in the hospital with anemia and exhaustion. Two pints of blood and $20k later I was back to normal. I took a week and a half off when my dad died. Both of these happened when I was so close I could see the finish line. Right now I feel good and I know that if I push myself I can do this. I have to isolate myself in order to pass. I know that. I've tried to spend time away from the studying for a night here and there and I end up with a 71, 72, or 73. I have severe test anxiety and if I don't feel like I've done everything possible to pass before I walk in, then I know that I'm gonna see another 71, 72, or 73. I'm kind of sick of those. A 74 would push me over the edge. I have to over prepare. Sounds crazy, but it works for me. And at this point, I couldn't go to the wedding if I wanted to. The bride was calling the caterers with a head count but called me first. So that's a no go. The first wave of scores should be out in early November. My husband's birthday is the 9th, my son's is the 13th and mine is the 17th. With a pass on FAR, we are going to have the worlds biggest birthday party and I'm gonna get drunk! If I don't pass, well, I'm gonna get drunk anyway!

@Kricket – understood! I admire your persistence, dedication, tenacity, and determination! And you're right about not being missed with 650 guests at the wedding. You are so close now you can probably taste it and don't want to do anything to mess it up. You go girl! As Mini said, everyone is rooting for you!!
