Okay guys, I need advice. I’m starting at a big 4 in a few weeks.
I have a really unique issue that has effected me in many areas of my life, and I don’t want it to affect my ability to socialize and be a “part of the group” in my career. I have a lot of food allergies, so I can’t just go to any restaurant, sit down and eat what’s put in front of me. I have to ask a lot of questions about how my food was prepared, which can be really awkward in a group setting and especially awkward if there is no one around to ask.
I usually bring food with me for upcoming meals wherever I go. I plan on bringing my lunch with me to work every day, which I have a feeling will already make me look like kind of a geek, but I have no choice. I’ve just heard that there is a big culture of eating out at restaurants often at the big 4. Also, at training, which is in another state, I have a feeling things will be even worse because I can’t exactly bring my breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a week long trip!
Does anyone have any input or advice? Or am I just worrying over nothing, and I’ll just have to figure it out once I start work? I’ve just experienced over and over, especially in college, that people tend to bond and form friendships over meals, and I don’t want to get left out, especially at the beginning when I’m just starting.
