OT: Auditor working as a part-time tax preparer without any tax experience?

My colleague told me that since I am a CPA now, I could work part-time in some tax service companies like HR Block during weekend. After hearing that, I took some moment to consider it seriously.

Is it really feasible for someone who doesn’t have tax experience?

    Currently:
    CPA - Class of 2013
    ALMI (Associate, Life Management Institute)
CISA - Passed in 2011, Certified in 2014

    In Progress:
ASA (Associate of Society of Actuaries) - EXAM P (O), EXAM FM (O), EXAM MFE (X), EXAM MLC (X), EXAM C (X)

I think it's the most feesable thing you could do to build some tax experience if you don't want to do it full time. I haven't passed all the exams yet, but I thought about looking into this next tax season (I'm a bank auditor).

Though H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt, and the like might make you take their 6 week tax course even though you're a CPA. Let us know if you look into it what you find out.

At least without a CPA, they don't pay much at all, so it might not be worth it…but I am curious to hear what they pay with a CPA. Still not top-notch experience, but extra cash is nice and an introduction to taxes is useful too! πŸ™‚

At H&r block you can take a test to exempt yourself from the 6 week class. (I took it while I was studying for REG, great practice)

Even with a CPA, they start you at minimum wage. You can earn more and more with referrals and commissions but they literally start a CPA the same as a high school graduate who takes their class.

    Its a joke.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.
