Hi All,

May be needing to relocate to San Jose, CA for work in March. Rent is about double what I’m paying now…yikes. Cost of living increase isn’t looking likely.

For anyone who lives there or HAS lived there recently, can you please tell me what the best areas are to live and the worst areas to stay away from? I’m searching sites for cheap rent, but not at the expense of my safety. Hoping to come in around $1,400 for a studio. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My hubby got a job here and we moved from Houston. Yes the cost of living in terms of rent was doubled but over all it was a good move for us.

San Jose has places where rent will be higher because they are safer compared to areas with cheap rents because they are not safe.

We rented a newly built town house near Oakland and Hwy 101. What I would recommend is look at this website it will give you a good idea of places that are good to rent and opinion of people that have lived there.

PS also look at places to rent on Craigs list. Once you see which areas are safe to live in , you can also check places for rent that are listed on Craiglist in those areas.

Our first home here was through Craigslist. Good luck
