I’m still on the hunt for a job in a really tough job market and I was just wondering which accounting software programs do employers demand the most?

for a small, local accounting firm like mine QuickBooks (bookkeeping), MYOB (bookkeeping), CFS (sales and payroll tax), and Lacerte (Income Taxes).

I work at a medium size firm.

Quickbooks, Quicken – Cleints will provide you with their files and you need to print reports you need for tax returns or financial reports.

Pro-System Fx, or Lacerte – 2 major tax software companies

Excel – This is a biggy, the more you know the more they will like you. So many of your workpapers will be done in Excel, often times even the financials will be in Excel. Know how to extrapolate data, macro's, functions, etc.

Adobe – If the firm is paperless, this is what most of the files will be in, know how to use it.

Most of the software companies will send you a demo that you can play around with for free on your computer. They typically have them for download on their websites.
