Does anyone know of any accounting competitions for college students? I know about the AICPA one however me and my buddies are graduate students, so we can’t enter. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Accounting competitions? Dont you have anything better to do with your time? You could be studying for the CPA exam, taking on an internship, networking with peers and/or potential employers, etc.

Minimorty, thanks for all your help! That's exactly what I wanted! I can't thank you enough!

I just graduated college with a 4.0. Did a tax internship in the spring. Have a bunch of friends and I'm doing a lot of recruiting while enjoying the last couple of weeks of summer. Passed REG two weeks ago and I'm gonna pass AUD next week. Now I'm starting my master's in a couple weeks and me and all my classmates have some downtime in our schedule and just thought it would be a cool thing to get me and some of my boys together in a business school competition for a nice little project.

Now since I like this site and basically everyone on it, I won't rip you apart. But all I asked for was advice, and I asked nicely. And as for my time, I'm pretty sure I have that taken care of. If you can't answer the question, or have no positive input, then please don't say anything.

So, if I understand your post correctly, you have only completed one exam so far and you do not have a full time job lined up. I am just suggesting that your priorities could potentially use a little bit of tweaking. However, being the nice guy that I am, I will share with you the only graduate school competition of which I am aware:

    https://www.acg.org/global/aboutacgcup.aspx

I dont know when the competitions are or if they are even offered in your area. I would imagine there are similar types of competitions across the country.

If you decide to enter the competitions and there happens to be an essay or written section, make sure you say “my classmates and I…..” instead of “me and my classmates….” Grammar is pretty important in the business world.

Thanks man, appreciate it, I'll look into it. Yes I only have one part passed so far. Just started right after I graduated. I hope to have 2 passed by the time school starts. Then probably gonna pass the other 2 after my master's. And, I also have a job lined up at Deloitte. Being as humble as possible, I am extremely blessed and lucky to have many of those priorities taken care of, hence the inquiry about competitions.

I'm sure you're a nice guy and will work on the grammar. At least I said you're and not your. 🙂

Despite their recent troubles, Deloitte is a great company and will be great to have on the resume. Congrats. Good luck with the rest of the exams.

And of course, I'm just kidding. It's just that is the funniest use of “me and my boys” that I've ever heard.

As for real advice, if you're really interested in a competition, why don't you just study hard for the CPA and try to win the Elijah Watts Award? Then, if you do win, you have a tangible benefit too of winning $20,000, and if you don't win, at least you'll pass your CPA exams.

@cardinal – The 88 on his first exam put him out of the running. Good thought though. Btw – Why arent you showing your scores any more? Just wondering.

I didn't feel like being identified by my scores, so I figured I'd just take them off. Plus, I only plan on being on here until I take my last test which turns out to be in 2 days, so no point in having my scores up.
