Someone said this to me this and I know he was kind of very surprised. Does that mean it’s rare for accountants to drive sports/muscle cars? LOL Any thoughts or personal experiences?

Agree with some of the earlier comments….you gotta live a little! I'm a huge petrolhead and see a pcar in my near future but also very frugal in other aspects which offsets the higher car payment. It's all about priorities.

Jeff – I personally have been holding myself back on buying a brand new 2015 Silverado. They are fine! I have not had a truck in 2 years and it is killing the Texan.

I drive comfortably seeing Toyota or any Asian cars around me. For sure, those cars would never be unmarked police cars.

    Pretty interesting thread.

I don't fit the stereotype at all. In the past 15 years I have had 8 cars that were mostly 5-6 years old when I got them. One was totaled in an accident where I was not at fault and the others I sold. Of my current cars my daily driver does not fit the accountant car at all. It's a 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 that has nearly 300K miles on it but looks/drives better than most 5 year old cars. I bought in late 2002 as my first car after graduating with my first degree and it had 36K miles on it. I've driven it everywhere including to Canada from Texas twice. I've also done all of my own maintenance and repairs. Growing up we did not have much money so DIY repairs were an economic necessity.

Now I am blessed to make enough money to drive a new car and go to a shop for everything but I can not bring myself to do either one. I still turn my own wrenches and do major car repairs like engine replacement or clutch installation for a few family members and people I know. I will probably buy an adult car when I get my CPA license to treat myself; adult car meaning some kind of rear wheel drive V8 sedan such as a Lexus LS or Mercedes E class but I will still repair things on it myself. The Mitsubishi I plan to keep for life if possible; too much sentimental attachment and I have turned virtually every nut/bolt on the car by now. But, I really want to garage it and not subject the car to the stress of daily driving with stop/go traffic, potholes, etc.

People at work all freak out if their car is out of warranty and will trade up to something newer. The next oldest car someone has is a 2008. My boss who is a CPA MBA drives a BMW M6 so the stereotype of conservative economical car goes out there as well. Actually, that's a more expensive and powerful car than the president who drives an Infinity G37S coupe but makes nearly double what my boss (director of finance) makes.

The '58 Porsche is beautiful. I'm driving a 2006 Saturn Ion 4 door coupe. It's kind of neat because the back doors are half doors and open backwards. We call it the Batmobile. Of course it's greatest feature is the clear title! Hubby bought a 2014 Ford F250 last year. He saved for God only knows how long, but he paid $36k in cash for it. House is paid for, vehicles are paid for, so I guess I'm the typical accountant.

Red 2011 Ford Mustang GT convertible here.

My next Mustang will be a '69 Fastback with a 428 that I restore in my garage.
