I have two vehicles – Acura RL (luxury sporty sedan) and Volvo S60 2.5T (sport sedan). I’m a car enthusiast and plan to be fixing people’s cars as a hobby in exchange for only home-cooked food.

I can’t ride bikes so I’m looking to get a third vehicle.

I would like to get a used sports car that’s both powerful and comfortable, just for weekend rides, going to the gym, off-road, etc. Any ideas? PS: both my cars are pretty powerful but I’m looking for that traditional full blown sports car.

How much are you looking to spend?

A 4th gen LT1 Trans Am with a bullet proof 383 blown with a F1 would be pretty badass pushing around 700hp. The motor/F.I would probably run close to 20k though.

@Biff-1955-Tannen – wow. That's a lot of power. I wouldn't mind spending $20k for that kind of power. Do you know how the gaskets are built in it? I used to have a Pontiac Grandprix, very nice car but the head gaskets were made of plastic. Can you also recommend a respectable SUV or luxury car no more than $60k? Thanks

03-04 Cobra….very cheap and easy to mod. I've had a 2001 WS6 with procharger 600hp to the wheels too.

lol you'd probably use multi-layer steel gaskets. If I were looking for a sweet SUV to mod, I would absolutely look into a Jeep SRT8

And as Joe said, an 03-04 Cobra would be really easy to get 7-800hp. Last time I looked, 03-04 cobras were still going for like 30-40k though.

@Joe C. – That looks like a nice ride. Do you work on your own cars?

Does the SUV have to be new? Does it have to be foreign? I had a GMC Denali and it was amazing. You can barely hear any noise from the road. Had a great variety of options back in the day (it was a 2003). It is built on the same assembly line as the escalade, so I am assuming the escalade is super nice too.

I don't have the wealth of technical knowledge that a lot of guys on here do ( I am a woman, lol), but I also like the Porche Cayenne and the BMW X5 based on aesthetics alone!

Good luck in your decision! I use to buy new cars every year, until I had kids … then there was no point! lol.

No I pay someone who has his own set-up to do LS1 builds. 03-04 tterminators can be had for $20k. Just have to be careful and find one that was not beat to hell.

@Biff-1955-Tannen – I never liked the look of some Jeeps but the SRT looks pretty good. I see potential. But why are the Cobras so expensive? 2001 Cobra for $29k? Wow.

You can get a 2001 911 for 20. If you want to spend a little more you can find a Carerra S.

Or you can find a Stage 3 Audi S4 for that price. 450 + at the wheels isn't shabby.

@MaLoTu – I've never heard of GMC Denali until now, and it looks pretty good. From what you describe I would rather have that, Jeep SRT, but not Cayenne or the X5 because I've read a lot of negative reviews from owners. What family SUV do you have now?

    @EuroAddict
    – the 911 sounds like a good choice for the price. I'm now reviewing the S4. Any thoughts on a used Audi R8?

Now I have a 2007 Tahoe. I have had it since it was new. The newer models are very luxurious. However, my biggest complaint is that there is a lot of road noise. I have owned it since 2006 (July) and I have had no issues at all. I plan to keep it for my kids to drive. My oldest is going to be 11 this year.

If you have more specific questions I am happy to answer any.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but since I have some car enthusiasts here, does anyone have an opinion on the Lexus CT 200h? I am planning on buying a certified used one within the next year. I like the fuel economy but don't know much about buying a used hybrid…

@MALO – What's the going price of them? If MPG is a factor, you can get a good performing (hp and mpg) on gasoline engine. Doesn't have to be a hybrid.

I like the style of the Lexus and the mpg. I have priced them at 2012-2013 for less than 20k with a mileage range of 25-35k… Is it a car I am going to have a lot of problems with?
