    Hey everyone.

I have one more exam until im done with this dreaded test and was thinking of upgrading my car. I have an old pathifinder with over 200k miles and it’s just time for an upgrade.

I was just wondering what everyone here is driving, wants to buy and/or will be buying shortly. People in my office seem to all drive bmws, audis, or mercedes! I don’t know if i could spend that much for a car.

What what good is HAVING all that money if you don't ENJOY it?!? I get far more pleasure cruising along winding country roads in my car than I do looking at my brokerage statement!

Granted, I'm only 23 now, but what's making me put aside 15% of every paycheck and not enjoy it are my expectations about my future healthcare costs. Just a cost of growing old… :/ I want to make sure I have enough set aside to grow and be able to cover all those future costs. Once I feel I've reached that point, I'll start enjoying more of my paycheck!

It's not a book about how you should live, but rather a book about how actual rich people live – statistically speaking.

@kreibsome08 I do love leasing but do agree that it isn't for everyone! Like I mentioned, my caddy needed something every time I turned around like tires, brakes, engine parts, coolant, sensors…you get the drift. My husband is an automotive engineer which saved us tons of money on service but fixing something 3-4 times a month got old once the caddy entered it's final 6 months of life and it began to stop being cost effective for us. He was driving an older car as well and had similar issues too. My husband and I don't want to fix cars anymore, plain and simple!

We look for great lease deals that don't require anything crazy down and fit our car budget. It requires us to be flexible about what we drive but sometimes it's fun to switch things up! I went from a caddy, to a mazda 3, to the new MKZ we are picking up tonight. In 2 years, who knows what we'll do next! It's fun!

I realize that I don't “own” my car…but I really don't care. We enjoy getting a new car every 2-3 years and it's worth it to us. We max out our 401ks, we have no student loan or credit card debt, have a reasonable mortgage, and live a fiscally responsible lifestyle so I have zero guilt about the money side. When I did have student loans, credit card, and was broke after college I bought the caddy used in 2005 and made it last as long as I could. Lease vs. buy really depends on the financial boat you are in as well as the amount of miles you put on a car. When the dealers are trying to blow out the prior year models is when you really clean up! You just have to shop around and be flexible!

I do agree with @DJN 100%!!!! If you enjoy a luxury car, it would make you happy everyday to drive it, and can afford it, why not? Life's too short! πŸ™‚
