I’ve been a huge fan of Trance music since I was in the 5th grade (2000) with my first encounter with “Better off Alone” by Alice Deejay. Ever since then, I never turned back to mainstream music and was utterly obsessed. Any other [soon to be] CPAs out there who share the same passion?

Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of stuff from 1999-2004 mainly from Paul van Dyk and some of Armin van Buuren.

Funny you should mention this… my musical tastes have slowly been transitioning to EDM over the summer (don't know all the different sub genres but getting there!). Listened to the Pete Tong show the other night, and “This is What It Feels Like” by Armin van Buuren was playing. Had never heard him, but I went to iTunes to check out his latest album, Intense, and loved it! I'm psyched for Avicii's new album coming out in a week. I wouldn't label that as trance, but he's supposed to be fusing a lot of different genres (country, soul, reggae, etc.) together. I'm excited to hear what he's come up with!

I'm also looking for some more trance artists to listen to (I'd say EDM in general, but I don't want to hijack your thread, so let's stick with trance.)

There are too many to name! But to name the “Legends” or the big guys I'd say:

    1. Armin van Buuren – Top DJ Mag #1 for 3 or 4 years consecutively, hosts “A State of Trance” which has the largest listener base of any radio show around the world.

    2. Paul van Dyk – Won a grammy, was DJ Mag #1 for 2 years, did music for the Dark Knight.

    3. Markus Schulz – U.S. Best DJ for 2012 I believe

    4. Ferry Corsten

    5. Above & Beyond

    6. Tiesto – did a lot of Trance in the past, but currently is producing House music

There are many other producers around, but I'd say those are some of the more well-known ones.

Ahh! I really wish the states have an event similar to the European countries! I attended EDC in 2012 in Las Vegas, but they were still advertising ASOT 550 surprisingly (4 Months later).

I saw so many trance acts, and one of my memorable moments was seeing Aly & Fila play “We Control the Sunlight” at 5:00AM when the sun was just rising!

I found that ATB albums were really good to study to. I love trance for studying/working because it really allows you to get in this weird zen like groove.

    FAR 02/21/13 - 95
    REG 07/02/13 - 87
    AUD 08/02/13 - 94
    BEC 08/30/13 - 85
    Ethics Exam - 90

^ I Definitely agree, i listen to TAWT or ABGT now i guess, they definitely put me in the zone and are not distracting at all…

And i actually ONLY listen to trance when i study, i listen to electro house for pleasure, like car rides/working out/clubs (like laidback luke, hardwell, showtek type stuff)

One of my friends is conducting research trying to prove that Trance music (because of its BPM 136-140) is great for studying and simulates the effects of adderral and coffee.

The reasoning for this is because the trance BPM is at an elevated 136-140, whereas house and other EDM genres like house are at a steady 128, which is normal blood pressure. Keep in mind adderall and coffee ELEVATE blood pressure. He is trying to prove that music at 136-140 BPM will ELEVATE blood pressure similar to the ways of coffee and aderall.

@weastside Interesting find, I can recall music at higher BPM tend to cause people to drive faster as well. Hope your friend makes progress in his study!

But yeah listening to Trance, keeps me going through my long study sessions. A lot of the 1999-2004 stuff had high BPMs and flowed perfectly together when combined with House.
