It was suggested that I start an Off-Topic thread so that people didn’t need to start a new thread every time.

Here you go – you are still studying! And there are plenty of fun things you can think of to keep you busy! 🙂
About your dad – if it's any consolation, I think it's better to lose someone who was there for you at least for some time than having a father who is alive and well but who couldn't care less about his daughters….which is my case but oh well, gotta keep moving forward!

January 23, 2014 at 5:59 am #529679AnonymousInactiveHey fellow CPA candidates, what's your favorite energy drink? I've been drinking Red Bull in the past but I have never been pleased with its taste.
For the first time, I tried 5hour Energy Drink yesterday. It made me keep going more than 25 hours without sleep even if my brain had already shut down. I felt like a zombie. I did not know what to do. I want to stay away from any of the over-the-counter sleeping pills. They make me sleep more than 12 hours. I hate that.
My friend (she's a nurse) said Rockstar Energy drink tastes good and makes her going all day long. I will probably try that one of these days.

January 23, 2014 at 6:09 am #529681tough_kittyMemberGood question about an energy drink. Wow. 25 hours! That 5 hr energy drink didn't do much for me but 2 cups of coffee during the day kept me awake for a very long time since I usually drink one cup in the morning and only on my work days. Sorry couldn't be much of help.

But I learned not to take things personally. It's not my fault he is who he is. I'm trying to find positives – I got his big pretty eyes 😛

How sad about your parents. Why was your mother mean?
I too come from a dysfunctional family of Eastern European immigrants (Romania via Italy to US). My parents and I do not communicate (and they live in Boston area).

My dad and I had a tumultuous relationship and I didn't talk to him for many years. I was very angry at him and so hurt… and with good reason. The last few years we both began to make the effort to work at the relationship. It was hard at first but I'm glad we worked through. When we were talking recently I said, “I wish we had been better friends when I was younger.” and he said “We were always friends, Baxter.” I wish he had told me that years ago.
There are no perfect people and I hope you can forgive your Dad…for YOUR sake…not his. I also hope that one day he will open his “pretty eyes” and realize how precious you and your sister really are. In the meantime, I hope I speak for everyone on A71 when I say…”WE are proud of you, ToughKitty!”
Oh..and a “positive”… you are here offering support to those who need a kind word and encouragement during a hard fight… I call that a HUGE positive! *hugs*

January 23, 2014 at 3:09 pm #529688tough_kittyMember@BaxterCPA: You are AMAZING!!!! I am saving this post 🙂 Thank you SO much for the kind words!
Yes, unfortunately, communication issues is a common problem for many relationships….I wish we had psychology classes in high school! You Dad probably assumed you already knew you were friends and you actually needed to hear it….but I am sure you had a good reason to doubt your friendship, because Actions Speak Louder Than Words, and if you don't feel it, most likely it's not there…..
But here is what I learned when I got older 😉 — most guys never really mature, and their mental state can stop at 17 yo or somewhere near that age so they are not ready to be parents…..it's not their fault really, so cannot really blame them for that…. it's like my sister — she posted on FB that our cat (which we had since 1995) passed away “a month ago” — it did NOT cross her mind to e-mail me this news ASAP!!!!!! It was a few years ago, so not recent….then one other time I asked her why our mom hasn't been online recently. She said: “I don't know…..oh, BTW, our grandma is in the hospital”…….Umm…yeah….that's just my sister………..guess she took more after my father….haha………..
