It was suggested that I start an Off-Topic thread so that people didn’t need to start a new thread every time.

I've been slightly pushing my bf to take the CFE exam (he works in LP at a retailer), as I think it'll help him get ahead in the field. But he has no interest. Seems like an interesting exam, though!
On another note, I've started to look at online MBA programs, but I have no interest in taking the GMATs. My work will reimburse for some of the costs. I'm weighing two schools right now. We'll see how that goes…
R - *77*(02/'13)-Becker & NINJA
A - 71('11); *87*(04/'13)-Becker & NINJA
F - *76*(08/'13)-Becker & NINJA - "server upgrade" survivor
B - 60('11); *82*(10/'13) -Becker & NINADONE, DONE, AND DONE.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:
"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

January 12, 2014 at 4:22 pm #529632MintsRGoodParticipantI really hope that I passed FAR because I had the best Saturday that I can remember in ages! Mr. Mints & I prepared our basement for the arrival of the treadmill, we went out to lunch, we went shopping at my favorite stores: Sur la Table & Nordstrom (and yes, Mr. Mints actually enjoys shopping with me), picked up groceries and made a fabulous dinner for NFL Playoffs. For dessert, I made from scratch chocolate macaroons and Mr. Mints made chocolate ice cream and I consumed the majority of a nice cabernet! I had forgotten how much fun life really is when you don't have to study! Fingers crossed that this fun stays forever this time!!!!

I have been trying to avoid the GMAT as well, but all the schools I want to go to have that requirement. I am not good at math. One other option is Executive MBA now I have to find a big shot alumni in my company who will sponsor me. But I have to sign my career over to them 3 year commitment after graduation with no buy out option.
I shouldn't complain they are protecting their investment.

January 12, 2014 at 11:55 pm #529636neika822Participant@Eliabraham – I've been looking at UMass Amherst (my alma mater), Northeastern, and Suffolk. Suffolk doesn't require GMATs for CPAs… Northeastern likely won't require them either with a certification… but UMass requires them no matter what. I think UMass is the best bang for the buck, as it has a good program and it's the cheapest, but these GMATs just kill me. I don't remember any of that math!

January 13, 2014 at 12:17 am #529638AnonymousInactive@neika I'm curious to hear about your searching too. I've never looked at materials for the GMAT so really don't know what it includes, but if I do a Master's, I'd rather not have to take some huge test first. 😛 But, at present my employer wouldn't cover it, and I don't think I can justify it out-of-pocket, so I won't be making any immediate plans.
And to answer Jeff's question from the start of the thread… For now, I'm enjoying *not* studying. We've bought a house since my last exam and are adjusting to home ownership (and trying to pay off as soon as possible), but in a couple years we should have it close to being paid off and I'll probably look into the CMA at that point. The good news is that in 2 years, there might be some more clarity regarding CMA vs CGMA, but I'm more comfortable with the CMA myself. And…as my comment to neika indicates, at some point in the future I might get an MBA, but only if an employer will pay for at least a significant part of it. 🙂

If your unit were ordered to produce more than it could while maintaining quality, you would:
a. Insist that it produce only as much as it can while maintaining your high quality standard.
b. Comply with the order after stating that you could not be held accountable for poor quality.
c. Try to achieve a compromise so that quality would not be affected as severely.
d. Talk to others to decide whether or not you go along with the order.
e. I don't know what I would do under those circumstances.
