It was suggested that I start an Off-Topic thread so that people didn’t need to start a new thread every time.

That's how it is at the one I went to in Abilene, TX. If they have the seats available they'll let you start no matter how early you arrive…it was awesome!
I'm planning to take the CFE in the Spring (after tax season)…I'm super interested in forensic accounting and already am familiar with the Fraud Examiner's Manual from when I had to get for a class a couple years back.
REG - 86
FAR - 80
BEC - 79
AUD - 92...I'm done woohoo!Licensed CPA since Feb. 2014

January 8, 2014 at 10:23 pm #529653StephAVMemberReally? Everytime I go there is a huge crowd of people! It isn't that they are necessarily making you wait just to be evil, they literally have no workstations open and then as they do open they can process 2 people at a time and there are 20 people in the lobby and 10 chairs…
Our Prometrics is in an office buidling, you have to go out of the lobby and into the hall (where you wouldn't hear your name called) if you want to be on your phone. Which IMO is worse than sitting in the lobby on your phone where you are being supervised.
FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.January 8, 2014 at 10:23 pm #529616StephAVMemberReally? Everytime I go there is a huge crowd of people! Sorry Jeff when I looked at that thread I noticed distinctions where not made. CIMA more well known internationally and has more partnerships than CPA. In Europe and Asia Pacific Africa you will get paid more. For me the exam was difficult, I could not manage to beat the managerial level because of not studying enough and being on the road most (+70%) of the time. End of day you end up Charted instead of Certified. Major difference is the branding When you get qualified as a CIMA you can easily convert to Charted Accountant (CA) which is in most countries, you skip a couple of levels. Certified MA is more US designation.
Now CIMA+CPA partnership that is a killer because you get a double whammy (markets are willing to pay allot for US candidates with the right skills, there not enough of them in the Asia/Africa (and BRIC) markets. In the past, well even now there was difficulty for International candidates in obtaining the CPA designation the state board registration and conversion of overseas degree to US credits it was a nightmare before some of the states sort of streamlined the process (and the need to take the test in the US if your location was not covered. CIMA in the early days latched onto that market by making partnerships with Universities that offered Internationally recognized degrees and local boards (CA) for conversion, and making local test centers available to take the test.
Jump back to the future… I am super glad the CPA and CIMA made this partnership because that opens up doors to international markets if you work for the right international firm in a foreign country you can be paid more than you can dream with the right designation and experience. Then will pay for all your kids private schooling, university, your wife tutor if she wants to learn local language and an allowance for your pets (I have seen some fascinating expat contracts). Just allot of people don't like the thought of working in a foreign country.
Sorry for the book, this is the best I can do with the time I have before dinner. Branding and Market share always wins ask a Havard/Hopkins Engineer working in the Emirates or the Niger for oil and gas, or IT person in Iceland or Utah state uni MA student working in China. There are tonnes of US uni's encouraging international experience because that means more students for them = more Alumni. Amen. Okay I am gonna shut up now. REG is calling.

When there are alot of people waiting, they don't go by “first come first serve.” They go by the test you are taking. They must think the CPA is an important test because they will pull me to go in before others.

I called the AICPA yesterday and my Ethics score had not been sent to my board (I passed the exam back at the end of Dec). I'm sure with the holidays and time-off some stuff got missed but it might be worth it to reach out. They were very helpful and it only took about a 3 minute phone call to get it resolved.

January 10, 2014 at 2:34 pm #529664nbad311MemberAnyone have their real estate license? It seems like it's easy to get (compared to the exam). Not sure what kind of practical use you'd get out of it if you were working in accounting and not actively doing real estate!

On another note, I've started to look at online MBA programs, but I have no interest in taking the GMATs. My work will reimburse for some of the costs. I'm weighing two schools right now. We'll see how that goes…
