Hi,
I have a undergrad degree in Finance/Marketing, and am looking to take my CPA since I have been working in private accounting for the past 3 years. I need some guidance on how I can achieve the 150 hours required by NYS for licensure. (Also, I want to complete this before studying for the CPA since I have completed limited accounting courses (2) in my undergrad.
I found a Accounting Certificate Program (32 credits) offered by BMCC that works for me since the classes are offered during nights and weekend. Plus it made financial sense since the course will cost me $5K vs $20K for graduate school. I have a full time job, and I don’t think pursing full time school is the right fit for me at this time. Does anyone know if this will satisfy the education requirement? Or does it needs to be from a 4 year/graduate level school.
I am also finding conflicting information online, and have tried emailing NASBA about education requirement, but have not heard back from them. I found a note that said “Some states (e.g. New York) accept non-accounting courses you take from community colleges but for core accounting and audit courses they have to be taken in a 4-year university.” Anyone know if this is true in NYS? Does accounting courses need to be from 4 year colleges?
If anyone who was not a accounting undergrad, and went on to take their CPA, will you be able to share your experience in completing the education requirement?
Thanks!!
