There are a few tax firms here but I haven’t got any luck trying to get into an Audit Department.

I was thinking of moving to Portland to stay with a friend and find a job but I applied for a job in Bozeman, MT whom they’re looking for an audit associate to begin immediately in August. Of course I haven’t been called back but it’s likely.

I never even been to Montana before and I love Portland, have been here many times and know some people. Choosing a job security over city life? I am not sure what the night life is like in Bozeman…

I’ve been job hunting since March btw. I haven’t been offered an audit position in Portland but a few tax positions. I suppose I could take the tax position and see how it turns out for me. What do you guys think?

If it was me, I take the Tax Position in Portland just to get out of Alaska. Otherwise, I'd be just waiting for Sarah Palin to come out of her home in order to snap her photos and sell to to the National Inquirer assuming, I don't get shot by her first thinking that I was a Moose or something : )

I'd take Portland. Lots of beer there. 😀

FYI – Lots of beer in Bozeman too. 😉

If you really like Portland, I can see you liking Bozeman. It's smaller obviously, but pretty laid back and full of recreational opportunities – two big ski areas within an hour or so, and lots of hiking/fishing/etc. for the summer.

Night life – Bozeman is a college town. That said, there are plenty of pubs/breweries/places to chill out – it's always a lot of fun when I make it over there. 🙂

IDK. It can be hard to get callbacks – especially callbacks if you are applying out of state.

“I never even been to Montana before and I love Portland, have been here many times and know some people. Choosing a job security over city life? “

Wait. What job security are you talking about exactly? Per your post, sounds like you currently have zero offers in Montana but do have some in Portland so I'd say Portland wins on both counts, no?

“I've been job hunting since March btw. I haven't been offered an audit position in Portland but a few tax positions. I suppose I could take the tax position and see how it turns out for me. What do you guys think? “

I'd say take a tax position and work on transitioning to Audit a year or so down the line if that is what you really want. Or you could move without having a job lined up if you are a risktaker. Job hunting once you already live somewhere is easier than from out of state, but nothing is guaranteed and Portland's economy is not super great/consistent IMO.
