Hey everyone. So I finally took the plunge and decided to go after the CPA certification. I am a Regulatory Accountant in the oil and gas industry and figured it would just be a great credential to have for whatever happens in the long run. I will be using cpaexcel as I have a very short attention span and planning on purchasing the ninja audio for when I go and come back from work. Does anyone know when the latest audio will be available or is it pretty much up to date? Planning on taking the 1st exam either February or during 2nd testing window

The audio is up-to-date and you get free updates 🙂
Advice on studying, if you're planning on starting studying right now… you should be ready for any of the 4 test by February for sure. Studying until the 2nd window would be way too much studying. I would also recommend jumping on it because changes in 2017 are coming!

    F - F ('12), 90 (Dec '15)
    A - F ('12), 73 (Feb '16), ? (July '16)
    R - 87 (May '16)

Study with us! I'm with them and suggest scheduling a test in Q1. So start studying now and the moment you get your NTS, go schedule your exam! Since you ARE an accountant, I'm hoping with GL experience, I would suggest taking FAR and getting it out of the way.

    Hilletjie,

That's great and I wish you luck in this endeavor to take the CPA exam. I would like to make a comment regarding your statement, when you said that the “…[CPA] would just be a great credential to have.” My fear is with that statement you are underestimating this exam. There is something about “good/great to have” versus “I need to dedicate all of my spare time during 4-8 weeks of review and testing (depending on test).” Just a thought. I could be very off in my assessment of your statement. I apologize in advance if I'm wrong.

With that being said, my boss used CPAexcel and passed. I don't have any information regarding the audio, as I will probably be purchasing one soon. I listened to one on another71 youtube and I think it's great, because Jeff emphasizes things and repeats things. It's designed to be audio, whereas sometimes other audio programs are simply a recording of an actual lecture (but the actual lecture has drawings and demonstrations).

    Good luck,

    AUD 80 05/31/16 (1x)
    BEC 80 01/16/16 (3x)
    FAR 78 11/23/15 (2x)
    REG 87 02/29/16 (2x)

I have the audio for FAR and it's well worth it. It's easy to follow along for the most part, but some of the calculations can be a little tougher to keep up with. I haven't officially started studying yet, but I've been listening to it for a couple months on and off and some of the material is starting to sink in. I also purchased the MCQ audio the other day, but haven't downloaded it yet. Seems like a great product from the demos I've listened to.

    FAR: 75 Roger & Ninja (notes/flashcards/audio/MCQ)
    AUD: 73, 81
    BEC: 71, retake 8/29

Be cautious of CPA excel – on one hand the shorter lectures are great when you have a short attention span – but on the other hand they can be dry and boring.

I'd also suggest reading about the NINJA method before starting any study program. I've did AUD and REG with just Wiley CPAExcel, following their pattern of watching each video and doing questions, and came up 2 points short both times. I'm going to try listening to all the videos and taking notes first, and then focusing on MCQs for my AUD retake and my next test and see if that makes a difference.

My final piece of advice – no matter what materials you buy – you have to put in the time. (This is something I struggle with) You could buy every study program out there, but if you don't commit and throw everything at it, it won't be enough.I'm honest with myself and know I could have studied way more for AUD and I am kicking myself because now I have to retake it and my journey is stretched out another month or 2. If I had just focused and put in all the time I should have the first time around, I probably would have passed.

    REG -73 (8/2015) 81 (10/2015)
    AUD - 73 (11/2015) 84 (1/2016)
    BEC - 84 (2/2016)
    FAR - 77 (6/2016)
